I will add for a "bar" its not a bar scene. Go in, grab this drink in a white styrofoam cup and walk out or drive away. Tropical liquors... think adult slushie. Careful... they are strong and do free small cup samples. I do Silver Bullet and Tiger Paw

I would avoid McDonald's and any Mexican restaurant that has any giant neon illuminated tacos on the roof.

I know this is not the best spot for this but I could not get my stand alone post to load.

At pre nationals there were signs at the entrance of the course that said there would be no day of ticket purchases for the Championship. You also need to purchase parking in advance as you can not pay to park when you show up.

The host site doesn’t say anything about not being able to buy tickets day of event. it may be on there and I just could not find it. I would hate for people to get caught out.

"Flyover country" is the only part of the.country that still looks like the United States.

Makes one wonder whether there is a bigger picture behind the scenes purposely meant to dismantle the US, from within?

Not so much, unless you always look away from landscapers, construction workers, and kitchen staff.

Columbia is still better than Terre Haute, Lawrence, Ames, or Eugene. Maybe worse than Madison and Charlottesville.

Is there an 'Eat' restaurant in Columbia? My favorite when traveling.

As mentioned above, we went to Shakespeare pizza tonight.

Two thumbs up for sure. I loved it.

We ordered a pepperoni pizza. It was delicious. It reminded me a lot of Track Town pizza in Eugene. You order at the counter but they have wooden booths to sit in. There also is a bar. Midwest prices are impossible to beat. Guy next to me ordered a pitcher of beer for $11 - for the pitcher not a single beer.

I HIGHLY recommend the place.

Local como runner here. Here is my 2 cents on food/running.

Breakfast:

-Cafe berlin is popular (hipster vibe, good food).

-Ernies is a diner popular with the locals.

-Best gem is little west of town in Rocheport. Called "Meriwether Cafe". About 10-15 min drive, great breakfast and on the Katy trail. Can run along the Missouri River there too.

-

Lunch/Dinner:

-We go to Murrays a lot (same menu for years, they do what they do well). Very busy in the evenings. We go there at like 5 with kids and usually no wait (they don't take reservations)

-Beet box is solid for lunch, hipster place and pricey but for breakfast/brunch one of the best places i think.

-I think billiards burgers are better than booches (somewhat of a local debate)

-Shakespeares is popular, sometimes the west or south locations less busy. I think Pizza Tree has better pizza but it's not a sit down place.

-Pasta la fata probably best pasta in town, small place and closes pretty early.

-Bard Owl and Fly over both pricey but good quality food

-Drinks: ton of college bars. I'm older and usually don't go to those places, log boat is cool hang out (Snapper is popular local ipa). Went back to Gunter hans for the first time in years recently and they have neat little back room. Bard owl solid for cocktails.

Can't beat MKT for running. MLK park or forum probably most accessible place to park if staying in town. Rockbridge state park is local go to for single track trail running.

I can vouch for Bard Owl. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. Went there after a meet last year on Coach Anderson's rec and it was fantastic.

Forgot to mention Endwell. New Italian place within the last year. Great pasta, pizza, and negronis. Figured those could be popular with this crowd.

Nothing wrong with Columbia but I'd rather be in Lawrence or Eugene.

Lawrence is terrible for an NCAA xc meet. Yes the course is unique and great but it's only suitable for 12 team invites or smaller. The access is atrocious. They will never get an NCAA xc meet again because of this. If you were there in 98 or have been to any large HS meet there, you understand.

I was only replying to where I'd rather be and not the course. I've run in KU Relays but never Cross Country in Lawrence. My response was more toward fly over country in the other post by someone with an extreme provincial attitude and limited travel experience.
