11/21 UPDATE:
We’ll be doing an LRC meetup at Logboat Brewing at 8 pm tonight (Friday). All LRC fans in Columbia are welcome to join.
We got a great email from a Missouri grad who was born and raised in Columbia about where we should head to this weekend while we are in town for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Columbia recs:
Running- a run on the MKT is a must. one of the best rail trails in the country, goes across the entire state. Crushed pea gravel.
Campus- check out the Francis quadrangle for the iconic view of the columns and Jesse hall on campus. Memorial Union, and tiger plaza on the carnahan quadrangle are other campus highlights.
Food-
Booches- cash only, this is a billiards hall that has been open since the 1800s, serves burgers, chili, and hot dogs. I would recommend a bowl of red (chili) and a couple of cheeseburgers (they are slightly larger than sliders)
Definitely a unique place, burgers come out on wax paper. No fries. Stag beer is another favorite there, a MO “piss” beer.
Shakespeare’s Pizza- another Columbia classic- college town pizza place across from campus with a lot of cool signs throughout. Unique pizza names, no napkins..you take a towel with your pizza to eat.
Como smoke and fire- not far from the course- can’t go to the Midwest without bbq. My favorite bbq in Columbia, not as good as KC but still very good.
G and D pizza and steak-
Another pizza spot- probably my favorite pizza in town.
Cracker crust- owned by a very friendly Greek family.
Beer-
Logboat brewery- local brewery with very good beer, available at restaurants throughout Columbia. Only sold in MO.
Broadway brewery- another local brewery with very good beer options
Bars-
Harpos is the classic Mizzou bar, others include Shiloh bar and grill
Coffee-
Shortwave- *****Famous person’s name***** favorite
Acola is another good spot downtown.
Ice cream-
Andy’s frozen custard- a chain originally from MO. A lot of concrete options. A must.
Sparky’s- downtown ice cream location with some funky flavors
Bucks ice cream- located on campus, ice cream made the ag school known for their tiger stripe ice cream.
