Surely, this has to be uncomfortable for both of them. There is only one track, and one set of living quarters. What a horrible situation.
I'd assume they see each other and just keep it moving. It'd be more awkward if they had a previous relationship or were competing for more of the same things (like Nordas).
What was the drama again? I remember that Pinto was left off the Olympics?
The drama is that Pinto has moved to Sandnes (Jakob’s hometown), and Lumb too, in order to be more properly coached by Gjert (in the training group with Nordås). -Maybe not all that controversial since the Gjert’s athletes would have trained at Jakob’s main track, also without Pinto…
I think the “drama” is mostly around Gjert getting accredited to the champs or not, as a coach. -The Norwegian Federation denies him this, and so do both the Canadien and Portuguese Federations. (The Norwegian and Canadian ones on grounds that Gjert fails their ethical standards, whereas the Portuguese Federation sort of “washes their hands” by saying the blocking of Gjert is WA’s decision).
Pinto is mad over the things described above (Nordås is too), so in the middle of WC Tokyo he vocalled this in an interview, claiming himself as a victim (not having his coach accredited). And he went so far as to claim that there were no reasons at all to criticise Gjert. Which triggered a firm reaction from Jakob’s wife, who clearly thought Pinto was insensitive and un empathetic given how the family recently had suffered during a long court trial…
Lastly some running facts: Pinto has PB’ed this year in the 800m (low 1.45), the 1500m and 10k roads (Portuguese NR). In the WC he reached the semifinals, where he was passed by his training mate Nordås on the home straight, but both failing the qualifying for the final (the latter with only 0,01 sec). -Thus making both having a weaker champs than Jakob who reached a final (the 5000m), and placed 10th…
