I'm a parent of a high school senior runner who grew up running youth track and xc in CT. One of the figures we saw a lot of over the years was Dave Driscoll. He never coached my son, but we attended his summer XC series races and he was one of those people who would always come up to us and talk about my son's running.
I recently saw an article pop up about him being accused of abuse and that he was quietly removed from school events because of accusations and an investigation, but he was a fixture at so many events my son attended and all along was coaching the Litchfield Youth Track Club team. I went and watched the video of the event I'm going to link and I'm horrified he was still so involved with kids running in CT until recently. I'm baffled and feel really lucky we were far enough from that town that I never considered putting my son in the program.
What are your thoughts? Does USATF do a good enough job in cases like this? I can't remember many youth USTAF-CT XC or track championships where he wasn't the guy firing the gun. I don't understand how he was there.
