If you compare him to Grant Fisher at the same age, though, or factor in that he beat Nico Young at Worlds, scalped him several times in college, and seemed to enter Stanford pretty undertrained- he has a lot of promise.
I don’t think he’s underrated. I think he’s Australian so doesn’t get as much noise on this site. Hes really good now and when he was in the NCAAs. Won back to back 5k and 10k, with Blanks and Hicks as runner ups. Won Nuttycombe his jr year and was always in the top 5 or so in XC. I would think he’s the best Australian distance runner at the moment.
He and Cam Myers are both underrated. Cam had something happen in the second half of his season (can't remember now if injury), but the Aussies have a bright future heading into LA28 and their home games in 32
He was keeping up with the likes of Blanks, Young, and Wolfe his senior year, while having never done altitude training and probably having an inferior couch in Santos. Not too crazy to see him take a step up this year imo.
He didn't have an amazing 2024 after a great 2023 but not bad by any means. I definitely haven't heard his name a lot but he also doesn't race a ton. I would've expected more in the 5th to 9th range for him before worlds but his bronze at the 3k indoor worlds was a sign of what was to come.

Agreed, I think it’s because R Cheriuyot and Laros are perceived as more impressive even though they’re a year or two older.
for some reason, I see Cam either being a time trial merchant (runs 3:27 but either can’t reliably make finals or place better than 5th), or moves up to the 5K. Sounds crazy to be pointing out the “weaknesses” in an 18 year old 3:47 miler, but I have a gut feeling he’s going to have a lot of trouble in high level unpaced races

Because I can only keep up with so many skinny white distance runners that LetsRuns tells me to like, so I’ve settled on Grant Fisher and Charles Hicks.

No flashy personality or breakout performances, just a super solid overall year but I was definitely impressed with his 4th in the 5k at Worlds. Nice dude and think he will continue to be in the mix
My guess is that him and Dylan Jacobs became less liked once they joined OAC because that's just how people tend to be around here
He's a quiet, nerdy introvert type who doesn't really post a bunch on social media so he's not really spoken about. He's incredibly underrated and definitely Australia's best medal chance in the 5-10k going forward. Him and Cam are very exciting for Australians. Also, He's definitely Queensland's best ever male runner - I reckon he's already overtaken Pat Tiernan.
