Reveals surgery after the end of the season: – It was chronically inflamed
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is coming off a special season with several disappointments on the track. Now he says he has undergone surgery.
– I have had my tonsils removed. It has bothered me in recent years and I have had a lot of sore throats and been knocked out by it, says Jakob Ingebrigtsen to NRK.
This year's outdoor season was largely ruined for Ingebrigtsen due to an Achilles injury .
In addition, a new obstacle arose shortly after the end of the season. He had surgery to remove his tonsils and was unable to train for a while.
– It never works, because you have to go two weeks without training. I have prioritized it, but my legs are a bit sore, says Ingebrigtsen about the operation.
– How did the operation go?
– It went very well. It was chronically inflamed, so it's an intervention that I think I'll really benefit from.
– It's quite painful.
He says that the tonsils have not been a major obstacle in recent years, but that he notices the difference now that the procedure has been done.
– It hasn't been enough (of the problem) for me to have done it before, but enough for me to realize that there is a problem. So it wasn't until the doctor took out my tonsils and saw how inflamed they were that it was really, really a good idea, says the 25-year-old.
– It's been three weeks, so I've been running for a little over a week. It's pretty sore, so I hope to start up again soon, he continues.
Tough World Cup season
The season was a disappointment for Ingebrigtsen. The only thing he managed to participate in was the World Championships in Tokyo, where he failed in the 1500 meter attempt and finished in tenth place in the 5000 meter final.
After the World Championships in Budapest in 2023, he also struggled with his Achilles tendon for several months. This ruined parts of the Olympic preparation for the Sandnes runner.
– It's exciting. There are still some question marks. I would like to be back in training as soon as possible. In the next two weeks I think I will get a lot of good answers for what the next few months will bring with training and training camp, he says about the Achilles injury
Sounds like a running life hack to improve breathing and reduce future recurring infections?
dang, no XC season for him then?
I have to say, I thought it was a pretty good troll job from the Norwegian state broadcaster -- their headline immediataly made me think he'd had his achilles snipped -- so I had to repeat it for the good folks of Letsrun.

Always arrogants.
'twas but a joke, my friend. And a bit of wishful thinking.
he had to take two weeks off after the surgery, but seems to be back training now
this proves he's using it

He's done, will never win the big one again.
Absolutely genius. Removing unnecessary weight. Plus 2 weeks no running to recover more.
Also allows for greater airflow to his lungs. Performance enhancing surgery just like Nikki.
tonsilitis is a made up disease. Noone even knows what tonsils are, but they are always supposedly getting infected and taken out by doctors. Then the victim eats ice cream for lunch for a few days.
I still don't know what my tonsils are, or what they do. I don't believe they exist. There's a thing hanging down back there, but I think that's called a uvula.
He should have also done his appendix, his pinky fingers and his left nut while he was at it (not sure if that would lower his T levels though.

Can I keep his left nut? Please?

The average spleen in an adult male is around 5oz, which is excellent value in spike terms and in light of that sweet Norwegian health care system.
you have a thread about someone having there tonsils removed?
2 tonsils removed at 1.5g each. Total weight saved 3g.
for every gram of weight lost, you save approximately 0.0027 seconds per km.
3g x 0.0027 seconds = 0.0081 seconds saved over 1km.
In a 5k Jakob will therefore save 0.04 seconds.
4 hundredths of a second could be the difference in a sprint to the line.
