Americans beware, Asian black bears don't run away like our black bears do. They are like little black grizzly bears.
Kiwis are at a big disadvantage in dealing with dangerous land mammals. Their country has no indiginous land mammals at all. Not even porcupines and such.
Japan has seen a marked increase in bear attacks in 2025 — including seven fatal attacks, up from 5 fatal bear deaths in 2024. Experts believe bear populations are shifting towards urban areas, in part due to climate change,...
Long time posters have had enough of you. The sad thing? You have no problem bashing people online but you get scared nervous and angry when anyone pushes back. When people tell you to post your race results, you get quiet. You have none. When people ask you to talk about your thons, you get quiet. You never ran one. When people ask why you talk about Edmonton so much, you get quiet. You blush. The problem with you is that you're a wannabe runner who thinks you can come on here and bash other people but you cant defend yourself. Prove us wrong. Post your results. We'll keep coming after you the more garbage you post. And you'll keep getting banned. And you'll keep worrying about lesbian militants. You got issues bro. You're soft, and weird. And for the record we are proud conservatives. Step up to the plate pal.
The topic at hand is mother nature out of control. This is something you seem to have intimate knowledge of as you constantly display your less than stable personality. The question is what has caused your mental imbalance? The jab, too much Tylenol as an infant, the pre-teen moose incident, too much interweb usage frying synapses, or do you come from a long lineage of folks off their rockers?

Not an idiot, just not informed on Japanese wildlife. Please turn down your anger if traveling to places with bears, they can sense humans with disagreeable personalities and are likely to attack.

No land mammals???
No indigenous land mammals. None! None at all!
Bats and dolphins and such, is all they had when people first found it less than 1000 years ago. They had a land mammal once that went extinct, millions of years ago.
Of the land mammals the people brought with them, none are big like bears. Just a bunch of rodents and such that follow people everywhere.

True. Just like the rest of the phonies and yes, lefties, TMADDDHASFNE always, always runs to the mods to have posts deleted that he doesn’t like - while claiming to be a free-speech advocate. You can bet he’s already reported your post to the mods. And will report it again while using a different IP.
Interesting 60kgs (132 pds) is not a huge bear. But the Asiatic Black bear is smaller than your typical North American black bear. Here, on Vancouver Island, I have seen them between 300-500 pounds as well as throughout the province.
Seen grizzlies 500-900 pounds (guessing on sizes of course) in the Rockies.
The fattest grizz in history was 1500 pounds or something. Probably would have eaten the entire Kiwi.

You are correct, and the only indigenous mammals in NZ that spend time on land are bats. In fact, NZ has no large land predators at all- even non-indigenous ones with the exception of count stray dogs, cats, and rodents.
If the topic of interests you, I'd highly recommend learning about Haast's Eagle and the Giant Moa which are massive indigenous predatory birds that hunted the early Maori and indigenous peoples in NZ. Also a very cool example of island gigantism.

132??? I can drop to that weight class and take a 132 pounder I think. Maybe. They got the whole teeth and claw thing.
The Simpsons (1989) - S07E23 Comedy clip with quote I'm sick of these constant bear attacks. Yarn is the best search for video clips by quote. Find the exact moment in a TV show, movie, or music video you want to share. Easil...

If only these nightmare birds were still around, the Kiwi in question might have been warier and more ready to battle a small bear.
Modern genetic engineering may soon be able to recover their DNA and bring them back, hatched by a golden eagle or an ostrich. Eradicate all mammals from NZ and put it back how it was. Ancient kingdom of birds and reptiles.
Moa (order Dinornithiformes) are an extinct group of flightless birds formerly endemic to New Zealand. During the Late Pleistocene-Holocene, there were nine species (in six genera). The two largest species, Dinornis robustus...
