There goes their world major status
Trying to get updates. What the heck is going on? They are saying for safety reasons?
Certainly not the weather. Looks like 60 degrees and sunny.
People are saying it was due to wind, but those on the ground are saying it’s not windy at all.
their instagram says safety specifically.
Lame. Shame.
First time I've heard a race cancelled for high winds, much less an event with 24,000 people. Weather is crazy.
25mph winds expected mid-day. Pretty lame reason to cancel

They still ran the 10km, with men and women posting 29+ and 31+ times, decent.
San Sebastian marathon was cancelled last year the afternoon before the race due to high winds. The day of the marathon, it was sunny and people were sat on the beach on towels!!!

Give it to Nairobi. Make it the only major at altitude.
Mrs doubtfire or Mary Poppins?
25 to 35 mph winds today. I'm pretty sure I've raced in that before. I train in that plenty of the time in the fall and winter.
Some race directors look for every possible reason to cancel and screw people out of their money though.
Ouch.
Some unofficial reports that the athlete’s village was heavily damaged and the overnight nights were making it extremely difficult to stage parts of the marathon course/finish. Not so much that it’s particularly windy or unrunnable now on race day.
Still, having run Boston in 2018, it’s hard to imagine any WMM (or legitimate wannabe) cancelling the day of for anything short of a life-threatening event or natural disaster.
But they've already paid for everything. The food and drinks are there. The start finish area. Medals, shirts. Maybe they don't have to pay the race marshals and police.
I think they cancel because that's just how weak society is now. They'd never have cancelled if it was the 90s. I remember the days when Michael Jackson was dangling babies out of 5th floor windows by one leg. That baby is an adult now, perhaps with permanent brain damage, but he will always have that moment.
Imagine flying over there, spending a lot of money, and the race getting cancelled because of some wind. Weak AF
I ran Cape Town in 1995 and it was the windiest run of any kind that I've ever done!

Oh ya, this is a destination race isn't it. Some people are probably out 1-2k (usd).
