Nuttycombe, Pre-Nats & other NCAA XC action / Oct 17 & 18

can some one please explain to me why XC coaches are so afraid to run their teams until the very last chance at the end of the season?

Probably a different reason for every athlete - coming off late track season, injury, worried about injury, who knows?

Entries are listed for Nuttycombe - but they allow last minute scratches so won't know who is running until the race starts.

I think the West Region teams for men at Nutty will be very interesting.

Harvard, Iona, Tulane, some mid Atlantic etc.

Right now the west teams have no at large points (with CBU and Oregon being ranked 1-2).

Clemson has both Crimson Classic and Pre-Nats on its schedule for this wkend. It would be interesting to hear from Coach Pounds re how she negotiates meet assignments for each athlete. Maybe someone on the ground from TSR will inquire.

Anderson is out of XC eligibility, right?

She competed at XC Nats four times while at Columbia, so I assume so. We'll see if she helps to pull the B team along or races hard, focusing on her own fitness.

I didn't spot Hutchins/BYU or Jepkirui/OKSt among the entries. Otherwise most W squads look at or close to full strength.

Jelego/Clemson, Noe/Ark, Chamberlain/BYU, Hedengren/BYU & Ogwoka/Tenn should battle for podium spots.

Actual race will only have 7 runners/team while the entry list often shows 15+. We won't really know who is running til quite close to start time.

Although if you are not in entries, you are right, they are not running for sure.

Isobelle Jones listed for FL is a potential upgrade at their 5th runner vs last month.

Carmen Alder listed for BYU? She still is not shown on their site Roster but is listed in TFRRS. If she in fact has eligibility that would be a big upgrade.

Pre Nata moved to Fri because of forecast of real bad storms possible on Saturday. Smart move by UM staff

TFRRS shows Alder already competing in four seasons of cross country. So how is she eligible?

That's what I think. She ran not just 1, but 3 meets in 2021 including Nuttycombe then apparently got injured. But a Medical waiver to wipe out her use of eligibility during 2021 seems excessive having run 3 times.

I was just looking at the Arkansas women's roster. There is only 9 women listed. That is not a lot of cushion for injuries, sicknesses, and whatnot. It looks like Paityn Noe will open at prenats. She's is listed on the start list, anyway.
