On Thursday, the Marcell Jacobs' espionage scandal came to a close in Italy as Giacomo Tortu, the brother of Olympic 4 x 100 gold medallist Filippo Tortu, was suspended for 3 years by the Italian Athletics federation for hiring an espionage firm to try to hack Jacobs phone and find out info that he was doping, so he could be presumably blackmailed or exposed.

And a story from The Times in London when it first came out earlier in the year
What I don't get it is this. How in the world wasn't this a criminal case? Trying to hack someone's phone isn't a crime?
