Should Athing Mu move to the 400H?

It's an interesting idea, though coordination might be the achilles heel here. We've seen Mu fall numerous times and while she's tall, exceptionally strong, and would certainly have the endurance needed for the 400H, I suspect that the technical training it would take to get her into world class territory would take years. Given her downward trajectory since winning gold in Tokyo, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Do you think her height will compensate for this, especially given the women's height is very low? Surely she can't be that bad at hurdling (esp. if Bobby knows anything at all - he did improve Sydney's technique a lot) that she'd blow a 2 second flat speed advantage over the field.

She would be in her own lane, which is a huge plus. She is tall enough that she wouldn’t even have to hurdle. It is harder to be out of shape compared to the 800. So lack of training is not as bad. Maybe a good idea.

Seeing that she has trouble running in packs at a slower pace than 400 pace she'll have to build up strong bones in her legs so that she can just plow through the hurdles. Realistically, it would take a while for her to get accustomed to hurdling, though she has very long legs so it would help.

She looks uncoordinated/awkward in flat races with no hurdles. I can only imagine how bad she'd be having to navigate 10 hurdles. Pretty much no athlete moves from flat races to hurdles. It doesn't happen. Too technical an event.

Favorite reply yet! He might have potential to be a threat in the 100m/400m for decathlon. Is sub 10.2 and sub 46 out of the realm of possibility? Adding a bit of muscle and getting to 80kg or more might help with the throwing events.

I doubt that she has the technical capacity to run a good hurdles.

Mu's problem is that she wasn't in shape for any distance, coming off injury, half a training block and mentally not there one hundred percent.

after getting in 158 159 shape, she writes off the season, instead of getting on to 156 157, for a jump off to 2026.

she should run 50 400m and go from there.

This thought process intrigues me more than I thought. But if she's in shape the 400 hurdles, wouldn't she be in shape for the 400 and 800 as well?

If she was in the type of fitness as this year is she running 50+ for 400? She won't be a factor in the 400 hurdles if that's the case right? Well you could probably make the world's final :)
