Assume there's some value in him running sub-2:16 & making it to the Trials start line. Sponsors/appearances/etc., leading into the race. I think a controlled 2:15 is in the cards for someone with his talent.
This seems completely unfair. We always talk tough about how the mile is such short event with a big influence of speed. How are these milers so dam good at the marathon seemingly from day 1? I mean i know they are great runners and will be better then most but I mean how are the Hassans and low 3:30s 15 guys like Kipchoge and Rupp able to do both so seamlessly? 5/10 K elites I can see a bit more. People who can win worlds at the 1500 and run sub 2:10 "42000" is crazy stuff.

For a 1500m Olympic Gold Medalist there is value in running in the OT marathon? Why would a sponsor be willing to pay a non-competitive runner that won’t appear on the TV screen?
I looked at the video on YouTube and he looked like a million dollars. Very fit. He was running 5.15-5.20 mile pace, hardly breathing and talking the whole time.
He can run 2:17:00-2:20:00 now.
If he trains seriously I see him running 2:09:00 -2:14:00.
not sure I follow but I think he’s got a 2:10 in him on a day. He does want to race and not pace. Heck centro might could best rupp
Amazed at all the downvotes this got. If Matt McDonald, a 4:11/14:11 guy, can break 2:10 at Chicago, I'm pretty sure Centro (3:49/13:00) can as well. Seems like he's taking it pretty seriously this year after having some fun pacing the women last year.

because he is a gold medalist, as evidenced by this thread, people will be talking about him. him running OTQ will create further buzz. buzz brings eyes to the products sponsors sell. him even being in the equation for the olympic trials creates a solid block of time where that buzz will exist.

Low body fat, efficient stride. Dude's in shape.
You may want to rewatch the video. He started out in the 5:30s and gradually slowed to the 5:40s. Looked good but he was NOT running 5:15-5:20 for the 25 miles.
That is a sold 25 miler. He ticks of the splits pretty consistently and does not look like he is working that much harder the last 5 miles. Centrowitz has a very light frame and a very efficient stride. No reason he can't run a solid marathon. Probably too late in his career to really be competitive in the marathon. But the guy loves running and why not go out there and mix it up?
I saw Jenny Simpson run NY last year. She finished in 2:31 in a run that was her "last hurrah" before retiring from the sport. I saw her come through Central Park after the leaders came through. I have to say that she looked great. Her form reminded me a bit of Shalane. Very symmetrical, smooth and efficient. Kind of makes you wonder whether she should have moved up to the marathon sooner. It used to be that moving to the roads was all but assured once a track runner hit their late 20s.
