there were guys like Bayi, front run 332 in 1974 1500k off malaria and haphazard training,

and rono, off trail runs in kenya, in 1976 plus university of washington brain trust, runs steeplechase in the rain, and wind, in a time that is on the top world list this year.

what i'm saying is there are goat africans like the above, that can indeed run goat times today, even with modest training improvements.

that said, most of the guys are fake, i'm not seeing any africans that are lifit like bayi and rono.

this kiplimo, don't have time to look into him in detail. but can say the PED profile isn't there in the progression.

would i bet this guy is clean? no, i just cant write him off 100 percent,

at this point in time, all im looking for is no full throttle PED.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. He's a phenomenal human being. I'm hoping we see a resurgence from Kam and a surprise win. In all likelihood, I would say that Kiplimo wins and runs 2:01:20 or thereabouts.

My suspicion is that Kiplimo goes for it and blows up. Korir and Abdi are much stronger competitors than Sawe had to face in Berlin.

What's the weather profile? Am hearing Chicago has been warmer than usual.

Since the race starts early, should be close to ideal conditions, provided no rain and no wind. It's really to far out to tell. Chicagoland has been unseasonably hot recently, but that will probably change by race day.

I don't think it will happen. I wasn't particularly impressed with his debut. It was a fast day, he got beat and 'only' ran 2:03:37. That's a long way from cracking 2 flat. Kiptum ran 2:01 in his debut, and then a year later ran the world record that is still not sub 2. If he runs another 2:03 we might have to put him in the same category as Kamworor/Kandie and others, guys who are truly best at half marathon and can't match it in the marathon. Kipchoge and Kiptum had relatively unimpressive half PRs. Just because you are the best at the half doesn't mean you're the best at the full.

Kipchoge could have run 57:30. Do you believe a 59:25 guy could run 2X60:34? The typical spread between the paces is three minutes.

His HM PR was run 2012, it was in the old shoes and he hadn’t even left the track yet.

I don't believe he's only a 59:25 guy, but I can't say for sure he would have run 57:30. Simply look at Kandie who has run 57:30's and has a way slower marathon PR than Kipchoge. Just because you run one time for half marathon doesn't mean you'll run equivalent in a marathon, and vice versa. There are guys who have run 'only' 62 and ran 2:08, but there are guys who have 'only' run 2:12 who have run sub 61

He won a 5000m WC and ran a 3:50 mile, so he was not lacking in either speed nor strength.

Half marathon time does not always predict marathon time. We had an identical thread before London then hardly any mention when he came nowhere near. When he runs 2:01 something then we'll start talking about the possibility.

Only time will tell but I'm putting money on Sawe to be next man to break the WR.
