so, he is 19. but is he an athlete using himself or is he a supplier? how much was found? Personal amount or huge amount?
why only one person?
depending on the answers there might be a sudden huge exodus of coaches, doctors and athletes.
or is it just a random face saving persecution of an irrelevant Indian chappie so that they can do business as usual?
i suspect the latter.
This is tragic. I don't condone what he did, but I'm guessing greed or financial hardship pushed him to this action.
Hopefully on appeal he can be deported to India, as doing prison time in Kenya would be very hard. He would be singled out. May the Courts and Judges have empathy.
Once again - not condoning, but Indian Dude is a kid, barely 19....
Busting this 19 year old Indian guy will surely mean that Kenya is now completely clean, and that every Kenyan caught cheating so far is actually innocent because this guy made them do it.
It is also further definitive proof that every British athlete dopes.
Scapegoat. There is an entire infrastructure for doping in Kenya and I really doubt a 19 year old is anywhere near the center of it.
I hope he will speak out, but he will be killed if he does.
You might be right. Have you been to Kenya? You'll notice many pharmacies have India connections and Punjabis sometimes own Pharmacy conglomerates in Kenya. This facilitates import of different pharmaceuticals. Not accusing, just observing. Been there, done that in Kenya.
Doctors and pharmacies can provide PEDs legally in Kenya. Not sure what is happening with this guy. Maybe brought in a personal stash.
If he has money, he can get out in a few weeks. I'm 99% sure. Judges in Eldoret area don't normally get high earnings. This guy could be jackpot. Just saying.
The truth they don't want to face in Kenya is that this is a KENYAN problem. The people doping the KENYAN runners are KENYAN doctors and pharmacist and KENYAN coaches.
Can anyone name a KENYAN coach or doctor who has been jailed yet? There are shady bush pharmacies all over Eldoret and Iten, start there.
This is a typically African solution to their very own problems: blame a convenient foreigner, Indians, Chinese, French, British.
Throwing this kid in jail may make them happier but in no way does it even slow down the doping problem there.
That's an internal problem, one of poverty and greed. KENYANs have soiled their own names in track, and they have a long way to go to reclaim it.
Just listen to the dishonesty of the judge in this case: Hon. Njeri said the sentenceaims to protect Kenya’s heritage and pride, noting the role athletics play in uniting the country and giving it recognition internationally. “Courts are called to protect society. Sometimes, they are the last hope for the populace that is ravaged by forces outside it,” she said.

Ghost, since you've spent time there, kindly inform us of businesses in Africa, not just Kenya, that are NOT run by Indians?
Go to any tiny town all over much of Africa (esp Eastern and Southern) and its not uncommon to see Indians running them. Not just pharmacies.
Also you said "many" are owned by Indians, so who owns the rest of them?

There are also Kenyan pharmacies run by Kenyans obviously. Kenyan people explained to me that in general they don't do so well when they have to work as a team in a business setting and it's something to do about money and possibly jealousy about who gets the most benefits.

Ghost, what?
Are you saying this boy is to be raped? By the Kenyans?
i used to play on a kenyan / african football team, ran a couple of training sessions with Boit, enjoyed beers and boys stuff. the best guys to run with.
since, i've seen the de evolution, the mindset, the jckass behavior, my cousin in law ran some charity work there.
in all.
i have turned on the group. they have very little to show in any sphere what so ever.
that said, i feel like going to narobi for a beer, and maybe find out more in a week than five years on this board.
