A Swedish cross-country skier, Edvin Anger ran 31:37 10K in a road race. How fast would this be if he had a runner's weight?
They definitely should introduce weight categories into running. You have weight categories in rowing so there is really zero reason not to have them in running.

Athletics already caters for athletes if different body types through each of the different events from Sprinting, Middle long Distance, Shot, Discus, Jav, HJ, LJ, Hurdles etc.
if I want to watch heavier dudes.run moderately quickly I can even watch the multis

Please, no. There is little reason to have them in rowing either. At least not any more than height categories in basketball.
That is impressive for someone that size to run that fast. I can remember when some races used to have a "Clydesdale" category. I think you had to be over 180 pounds to be in that category. I imagine having a category like that now wouldn't be acceptable.
Isn't he like 6'6" though? That's still impressive, but if it's the same video I saw the guy didn't look particularly muscular or fat. Bigger than the average 32min guy for sure.

That's not really true. Power to weight is much more pertainant for Running and cycling where absolute power is more important for rowers. a little fella can't really overcome the power deficit
There us basically no money in rowing so I have no issue with them not just going for absolute brutes
Basketball height disadvantages can be overcome by improving skill, handing and shooting. Yes it's more difficult but a much harder case to make than for rowers

Says 6'4...wouldn't have expected height to make that much difference to weight- if he was 6ft I'd say he's 170/77kg absolute max with that physique. Reminds me of Nick Bester talking about how huge he is...they both have a runner's build just wide shoulders and height etc leading to a heavier weight.
But I've seen triathletes(typically shorter guys) who've ran relatively fast in 5k, 10k, marathon who genuinely have a jacked build whereas this guy looks like a runner.

I don’t think he says anything about how huge he is. 100 kg is 100 kg. You feel that on your feet, calves and legs no matter your height or build.

I looked it up. He's 1.90, so 6'3ish. A BMI of 27.7
Tall runner here (6’6, 200). While this guy is def muscular for a typical distance runner, I will, say it’s less linear in terms of performance gains/loss. My lightest has been around 180 and I have competed everywhere between 180-200. Weirdly, my better long distance results have been a bit of a heavier weight. That could be age or better training, but I‘ve been surprised that I don’t notice much of a difference.

Better yet... That guy should get in a boat. He is literally the prototype for an elite oarsman. To run that fast at that weight heProbably has a 6.5+ to 7 liter Liter VO2 max.
research shows that being lean is a much bigger factor than people think (relative to just looking at weight). so you see runners who are skinny fat and want to become leaner, they're already starting at a disadvantage with their lower muscle mass, and then they lose weight in a dumb way (ie not minimizing muscle loss), and end up at a lower weight but the same or worse body fat %, and they perform way worse, get injured etc. then it's all false conclusions "my ideal race weight is actually higher. i tried losing weight and ran worse" etc etc. sad. they should have done some hypertrophy training first, either re-comp or a little bulking, and then cut to get lean while maintaining as much muscle mass as possible. but you hardly ever see that from runners and you cant even discuss it because people are immature about it like body composition ought to be a sensitive issue. needs more education, not more sensitivity.
anyway, being very lean and insanely well-developed aerobically from cross country skiing is probably the ideal formula for running a good 10k at a higher weight. doing all the aerobic development necessary to run that time at that weight with just running, and without losing the muscle mass, would be way more difficult
