WELCOME TO THE WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS TOKYO 25! The World Athletics Championships will be held in Tokyo from 13-21 September 2025. More than 2000 athletes from some 200 countries will come to Tokyo to take part in one...
Why? Seems she was in a solid position and got clipped.
Exactly, she did nothing wrong, and was tripped from behind. You can't allow that to happen.
The joke for this one was Jessica “Bull” in a China shop. She started the heat by getting out slow, and shoulder checking an athlete for position. That was borderline but after using the created room she started veering a bit and looking around. That’s when she got clipped. Pretty, pretty generous advancement IMO but there were only two falls. Sarah Moraa, who was completely not at fault (advanced by judge proactively), and Hull who probably benefited from how little carnage there was.

This is what I thought too. Everyone go back and watch the first 1/4 of the race: Hull initiates a lot of contact ('jostling!?') which actually ultimately results in her being clipped and hitting the ground. She's as much to blame for her fall as anyone. I was surprised the commentators didn't mention the bumping around she was doing prior to her fall (I watch from Canada)

Great summary. Jessica Hull is now smiles and shoves. She realizes she can get away with it due to popularity. She pushed Chepchirchir away early in the final lap of the 1500 final and that felt so good she immediately followed with a right-left elbow combination early in the 800.
Consequently I enjoyed it when she fell, while knowing full well they'd find a way to advance her.

Agree with this-I noticed the massive push (not just a warning hand, there seemed to be a lot of weight behind it) she gave to another runner at the start and thought there was a smidgen of karma involved in the fall. I like Hull and I'm glad to see her race again, but I think she got lucky with that decision.

Yeah I think I got downvoted because people thought I was hating. Hill is widely liked, and yeah Hannah England/Rob Walker not making note of the obvious shove and commotion caused by Hull betrayed some bias to me. Like Hull, fortunate decision. To her credit she made it count in the semi. Very interesting final coming up. She should be rooting for Keely to take charge. If it’s the Moraa show, the slow start/big rally tactic is not going to work with all that traffic.
I'll say this - timing is everything in this sport isn't it? - in so many ways and interpretations.
What Hull does down that back straight is marginally less egregious that what Hocker did and he was rightly DQ'd. The big difference is that there was slightly more room for her (but not a lot) and it was 150m into an 800m and not 1440m into a 1500m race where any contact can really bring the wheels off someone with dramatic effect (as it did with Farken).
But even in this instance I think given what I have a feeling WA are wanting to do big picture which is clean up distance racing across the board in terms of in-race etiquette, she's lucky not to be bounced for that.
Secondly here is why I believe she caused that all herself - and this comes from a lot of experience running 2 lap races and seeing stuff like this happen first hand. So as they approach the 200m point, the pack has basically sorted out it's natural order and is settling into to it's pace. She's last to join the party obviously she had to shunt Trapeau and Sekgodiso out of the way to catch up. She then inserts herself into the middle of the pack which is all of a sudden why Goule-Toppin and Sekgodiso get squashed against the rail. Goule-Toppin obviously can't go anywhere because shes on the rail and that's why Sekgodiso has to go slightly across the lane because there literally isn't anywhere else to go. She catches Hull and "fortunately" it's Hull that goes down because we see in a lot of cases (like the US trials with Mu) it's the athlete behind the perpetrator that actually falls.
If Hull just stays patient at the back of the field - and she wanted to be there because look at her opening 100m and it's not like the race goes out in 26 seconds, nobody would have been in danger of falling/being disrupted. It's that simple.
I'm not hating on her either but of course they are separate issues and multiple things can be true at once. She can be a nice person and make a bad mistake in a race, just like Hocker. I think it does help that people see Hull as a bit of a golden girl in the sport right now, but she should not have been rewarded with a spot in the semi's after that. All history now - she's in the world final and just ran a national record in the semis.

I just did and what you said is factually wrong. There is a small amount of shoulder to shoulder yes, but nothing remotely near DQ level. The SA runner then cuts in on Goule, gets bumped out, and clips Hull from behind. Hull was 0% to blame for the fall.

Not being confrontational here just asking a question.
Do you think that Sekgodiso squeezing in on Goule-Toppin had anything to do with Hull running in front of run her and imperceptibly slowing down? Because usually when that happens the runner behind will go sideways to avoid the contact. In this case Sekgodiso initially goes left (which makes sense because the entire field is "going left" after the break and in the direction of the turn) and then when she runs into Goule, has to then go right - which is when she clips Hull.
It's a massive stretch to say Hull was 0% to blame for the fall. Zero, as in absolutely nothing at all?
jess hull is simply a major benefactor of DEI, affirmitive action and every other actions that white people like to complain about minorities "benefiting" from, he unexpected improvements at an advanced age are seldom questioned and she's instead praised and lauded by western media (such as this very site, see link) as one of the greatest runners of all I time alongside Kipyegon.
I have a theory that she has intentionally been allowed to "not be truthful" in order to hold her up as a certain representation of elite runner who is simply mediocre but granted the privilege, of a specific colur, to carry on a charade with no fear of any repercussions.
It's no surprise that many on here seem to be complicit with this bogus narrative.
Go to 3:25. Says JG might know the answer to some nerdy track trivia. Can’t imagine the butterflies he was feeling. Ever the cocksmen, he replied by saying “not off the top of my head”. I would avoid Mr. Jolliffe if I were Jo...

Eh, look it wasn’t Niklas Kronwall but it was some noticeable contact. In the last 100 it could become something, but in the first 200 I agree rarely if ever a DQ. To your point on Hull, getting tripped up was to me a little ripple effect of everything going on. She was running a bit unusually, and her whole second 100 looked a bit…unhinged. Again OK with the advancement but I wondered why they were very uncharitable in the 1500 in some cases. It shouldn’t be a numbers game, but last year remember how outrageous the 5000 got. Or World Indoors 2024, too.

You can't??
There are dozens of examples of runners being clipped from behind or otherwise falling in "not-at-fault" circumstances, with the runner NOT being re-instated.
Foster Malleck in the men's 1500 comes to mind this WC.
Part of racing is staying on your feet. Selecting higher-risk or lower-risk positions and lines throughout the race is PART OF RACING.
But Hull gets a special pass on many fronts, not least of all avoiding scrutiny for her "interesting" sudden improvement.
