The association confirms: Has entered Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the 5000 meters
The sports director of the Norwegian Athletics Association, Erlend Slokvik, confirms to NRK that Jakob Ingebrigtsen has been entered for Friday's 5000 meters.
- I have been told to enter him, so I have done so now. It has been going well the last few days here, so as of today it looks like he will start, says Slokvik.
There has been a lot of uncertainty around the Sandnes runner after he crashed out in the 1500 meter trial heat, but now it seems that there has been some improvement.
- He had a very good training session on Tuesday, and it shows that he is actually physiologically good. Then there is always the question of to what extent the pain in the heel affects his running, but at least it did not in training yesterday, says national team doctor Ove Talsnes to NRK, who cannot confirm whether Ingebrigtsen will compete or not.
Talsnes is unsure whether it was the injury at all that caused the 24-year-old to fail the 1500-meter race.
– I don't think that's what stopped him then. It was a day where the body didn't work, without us fully knowing why. Sometimes we see that you can have bad days in such conditions.
On Tuesday, Ingebrigtsen shared a message on Instagram in which he indicated that he was ready for Friday's distance.
"Here we go again. Soon 5000 meter attempt," the Norwegian wrote.
NRK spoke to coach and brother Filip Ingebrigtsen the same day. He did not want to say too much about the Sandnes runner's possible participation.
– He needs to get a little better response in training than he felt on Sunday for him to run, so he has a couple more days to decide, said big brother Ingebrigtsen.
– He loves running, but if it's as hopeless as it was on Sunday, then there's not much to run with in the 5000 either. There has to be a change from Sunday to Friday for him to run, he continued.
