Originally British, based in Flagstaff, no great results to speak of
Ran a super smart race to medal. Unless she was acting, she appeared to have no idea she was in 3rd until after crossing the line, having passed so many people.
Only down side is she knocked Susanna Sullivan out of the medals
Paternain: I think she has triple citizenship, UK, USA and Uruguay - the latter through grandparents, but culture wise she's more American than the others, imho. Don't think she's ever lived permanently in Uruguay, unless mistaken. More research needed.

What's your source that she's a US citizen? I am skeptical.
McKirdy is an interesting group in Flagstaff. more of a collective - some pros/some paying to be there.
lots of international athletes, some sponsored /some not. theres not a ton of financial support nor hand holding so you have to be really dedicated and self-motivated if you're gonna make it work for you. clearly she is. I think she's also a part time coach on that team as well.
getting a bronze at worlds should help raise their profile.

I believe they announced she was born in Mexico too.

Had she gone Meridia or Atalanta she'd have at least a silver.

I think Uruguay (parents), Mexico (birth) and UK (where she was raised and won English Schools).
Why were there no officials at the finish line? Why didn’t they mark the fish more prominently? She was clearly confused where the official finish line was and not having any officials there made the situation more confusing. 🤷

She has triple citizenship
UK Mexico Uruguay not USA
she has a green card for living in the USA
Green card holders usually, but not always, elect to become US citizens after a few years residence in the U.S. in that case she'll be a quadruple citizen of UK/Mexico/Uruguay/USA. That's rare. There are obviously millions of dual citizens though, and fewer triple citizenships.
On the interview, Julia has more of an American accent, with a hint of British mixed in, somewhat reminiscent of Jon Gault, another dual UK/American.

Yes that was absolutely an aberration in my eyes as well and at least a couple of Japanese officials should have been there to indicate that she had finished the race indeed possibly even with a finishing tape.
She ran a super smart race and was 30th at ten kilometers running a smart race and even pace which paid dividends at the end. It's interesting that someone like her who is three to four minutes slower over 10,000 meters (29:30-33:20) compared to the best can compete with the best in the marathon. Such a differential in basic speed over 10 kilometers does not exist for the best men where the differential might be two minutes.
