I agree this has been a failed experiment. Fans don't care and the athletes don't care.
It was a little better when men and women would race each other on the same leg, but it's boring now that the men and women are required to be on separate legs.
A Distance Medley Relay would be 100x more interesting.
I don't really care for the event but those athletes aren't nobodies. Bol didnt even try. She knew there was no way she could catch the American team this time. That means she knew that person was a somebody. That somebody was setup with a 43.9 McKiver well paced effort, split according to announcer. That is not a nobody split. Their last exchange was textbook, much better than our women Olympic SML exchange in Paris. Men and women running same leg is not optimal compared to keeping each leg competitive with like gender. Bol, Klaver, Borlee, Maudsley, the Polish kids etc..are not nobody athletes for their countries.
Considering they have a charity preliminary 100m so guys from unrecognizable countries can blow up and fall off the track at 50 meters trying to make their countries proud, I dont see what's wrong with another circus coed relay on the first day to fill seats for the women's 10k and men's shot put final.
Big deal, dont watch. I don't but some people think watching emaciated girls run 25 laps is boring too.

No it wouldn’t. The Distance Medley sucks. The 1600m runners race tactically and invalidate the previous three legs.

USA won by 1.16. They were ahead by 1.83 at the exchange and Holmes ran a very conservative 50.73. Of course, Holmes would have run faster if she had felt the pressure behind her. But Bol gave up too early. At least she should have tried to catch Holmes. Both Irby-Jackson and Klaver in the second legs had faster splits than Bol.

Well, maybe the other 3 Netherlands runners should have run .39 seconds faster according to your math to help.Bol decide not.to give a half-assed effort. Im sure her teammates appreciated that she saved herself for her individual charity gold in the 400 H. They dont have a 5th runner that can give a better effort than that? Geezus! All or nothing! What a premadonna!
US had 4 very good runners. Two sub 50 and two sub 45 runners.
In my country (Finland) the national record for men is over 45 and for women over 50. It's not easy to run those times. In the US the level is just incredibly impressive.

Wrong. Bol had zero chance of winning so she did the right thing because she still has other events coming up (400h, women's 4x400). Good thing you are not a coach.

Lol no. WA won’t cancel it because this is the ONLY relay their favorite precious European boys and girls can win because US always send their B team. they have NO chance in men’s and women’s 4*4 relay at all as long as US teams don’t make mistakes by themselves. You see women’s 4*4 last year in Paris? See what a HUGE gap between US top women’s runners and Euro’s! lol.
