Record-high temperatures and debilitating humidity have prompted World Athletics Championships organisers to move up the start times for the race walk and marathon events this weekend by 30 minutes to 7:30 a.m. (2230 GMT) in...
You guys often have bad takes on your podcast (I think it's mostly for effect) but I tend to agree that getting rid of the marathon at Worlds is a good idea.

Hmm that is a hot take. Wish I could disagree, but I think you're right. It's like the 2nd tier guys duking it out for a world medal, meanwhile a guy like Kipoche and all the others cashing in on $$$ elsewhere

JG wrote something a while back about uncoupling the marathon from the track championships. Instead of eliminating it altogether, why not designate a top tier (but not WMM) race as the world champs? There are others, but Valencia might be a good place to start.
The forecast dew point is 76 all morning. At that level it doesn’t really matter that much what the temperature is, not that a half hour would make much difference in the temperature anyway.

It's also to limit sun exposure. What matters is the net effect of air temp + humidity + solar radiation + wind or lack thereof. Conditions at 10am in Tokyo on Sunday are dreadful on almost all accounts, save for some clouds that will at least limit the solar radiation load. But with a 5:20am sunrise even the early start won't help that much. Maybe they should've pulled a Dubai and run it at 11pm.
You're going to see 2:16 women running 5:30 miles or slower, out there tomorrow.
