"Three weeks ago, Kerr ran his fastest 200m rep ever in a workout — 22.4 at the end of a speed session Mackey used to use with Nick Symmonds (150-300-150-200-150-200). Mackey was pleased, because with how fast the top guys have been closing this year, he knows Kerr will need a good top gear in Tokyo."
Wow!

How was the start? From the blocks or flying?
Has to be flying. Still really good. It was interesting parsing Mackey's comments. Of course might be reading too much into this BUT he said Kerr is better on the speed/tempo ends than 2023-4. He didn't mention at-pace work, and that doesn't surprise me actually. I think London DL and the workout we saw of his 400s was a sign he isn't doing quite as well running smoothly at 55s in practice as last year. Granted, Pre and Paris showed just how amazing he was at that last year. Will be interesting to see if this factors with someone setting up a 3:29-30 race that could punish guys who are straining at all to hit 56/153.

Almost certainly flying. Acceleration from a dig is a nearly unnecessary skill for a 1500m runner. Additionally, it’s very tough on the body.
Are there any 800 or 1500 runners who could beat the women's 200m world record? I doubt it.
But there are certainly quite a few who can beat the women's 400m world record. And quite a few who can't, too. It would be interesting to make a chicked list.

If you were really an objectiveobserver you wouldn't ask such a stupid question. No one does reps from blocks or standing still.

what is typical for a high level mid distance runner? I had a 16 year old kid, who ended up being sub 4 in college, who ran a 22.9 split, indoors, in a 4x2. Also a 48.4 4x4 split. FAT.

There are absolutely men’s 800m athletes capable of 21-low in an all-out 200m. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Lutkenhaus could do that right now, and he’s not even the most obvious candidate.

And there are probably other top 800 men who can't. I doubt Nick Symmonds could have. In a workout flying rep maybe, not in a FAT race.
That's why there should be a list, for those who have proven themselves, and we can argue about those who haven't, but we think could or couldn't.
