He ran there super well last year. I think when it’s all said and done at the end of his career, he could end up having similar accolades as a miler than as an 800 guy. Hes got 46 400 leg speed and talks a very big game endurance wise (said in an interview he probably could’ve hung with Grant Fisher’s 12:44 for 2 or more miles). Could have a dangerous kick in the mile that is a little harder for him to stand out with in the 8.
I think Yared can still take him. But who knows where everyone's motivation is at this season.
The timing this year with World Championships leaves the field more or less as runners that just missed their national team. US is so deep, it's still stacked competition, but I guess we'll need to see what this means for this event in the future.
It feels a little like the NIT tournament. I'll still watch, but it's just a bit depressing.
This year, yes, because of the relative timing. E.g., when in the press release they quote Nuguse saying he's "excited" to be closing out his season with this race, it's like...come on. No need to be completely implausible!
I’m still bewildered how 5/10 Karissa Schweizer tied miler Laura Muir’s course record last year. Muir was in a fetal position on the pavement after her race; not so for Schweizer.
Morris came on late in the year. I think she won the Sir Walter Miler, then flew to Cleveland and won the Guardian Mile two days later. Now she takes the 5th Ave Mile
Camera angles are always an issue with this race. And, now, no clock at the halfway mark. Aaargh! Did Delay or Karissa take 2nd? Couldn't tell from the crappy angle they showed.
