Would you be in favor of bringing back PAPER tickets?

Your post had me googling images of old baseball tickets from the 80s and 90s. As a kid I remember the aesthetics of paper tickets and the sense of anticipation for the game when I looked at the tickets. Simpler times.

Paper tickets still exist for some venues. You just have to go to the box office. The biggest tech problem today is that there is an app for everything. No one wants an app for something they go to once a year.

Definitely. There should always be offline options, not just for the tech challenged, but also for anyone who values privacy, or just choice. We shouldn't be a society of one choice, liberty means lots of choices.

Luddite millennial here. I'll still print out my airline tickets if I'm flying alone. Would do it for concerts, too. I hate user-unfriendly apps. I hate needing my magic rectangle for everything. It is the devil!

Welp, my Boomer dad still prints off emails with the bar code or QR code to take to venues. Last weekend at the local MLB park, I could have easily transferred the e-ticket I bought for my wife to her phone if there was any foreseen issue.
The stadium is now cashless (except for 3 select locations) for concessions and it's awesome. But of course, we planned ahead and had a really nice lunch before the game and thus didn't have any impulse to overpay for mediocre concessions in the stadium.

People not thinking ahead to pre-load their e-tickets when they are on a reliable network is not a technology thing, it's a goofball thing. They can't foresee or adapt easily to any unknown or changing environment, the context is essentially irrelevant. They tend to not be careful or consider others much at all, either. These are the people who turn the wrong way down one-way streets or lanes. Yesterday, I was in line behind a dude who was buying some water and he fished in his pants pocket to throw down a fistful of coins on the checkout and just stood there watching slack-jawed as the cashier had to count and pick up the amount for the transaction. Major goofball.

I am pro-electronic ticket, but issues beyond my control can arise. What happens if the reader system at the venue goes down? A ticket that is just a QR code becomes...nothing. At least a ticket with proper info can still allow entry albeit slower.

I literally just went to a Nine Inch Nails concert with my teenage daughter. After you scan the tickets at the door, you can no longer transfer them. I found that out the hard way. They were on my phone, but when she wanted to go to the bathroom during the opening act, I had to go with her and wait outside.
Not a big deal, but still a loophole I didn’t know existed.
I already got tickets to next years FIFA World Cup. FIFA is the worst. Impossible to transfer tickets or sell them.

Its mildly more infuriating to have to download the app than have it on my phone. If its truly a one time use or I don't think I'll use the app again anytime soon, I'll delete. But I have stuff, like a parking app for a lot I use every couple months, another parking app for my hometown for a lot across town, a third parking app for the touristy city nearby where a few races are.

One restaurant - gives points for using the app and 10% off at so many points - everyone knows they just charge 10% more than they need to. Apple TV because I'll probably watch 2 shows on there this year. Kickstarter because I have to log in for updates to a Sanderson project every couple months. Etc.

I install apps for flights or concerts, and then uninstall the app when that event is finished.
