Some super fast times in the 1000m at the Volksbank Trier Eifel Flutlichtmeeting in Trier, Germany tonight. Spain's Mohamed Attaoui just ran 2:12.25 for 1000m, which puts him #3 on the all-time list behind Ngeny and Coe. Kenya's Festus Lagat -- who was 4th in the Kenyan trials in the 1500 and won't even be at Worlds -- was 2nd in 2:12.96. That is #5 all-time.

This shows the record’s days are now numbered, and with bicarbonate it is no surprise, as there are now probably about 6 guys who can run 2:12xx now. This record is broken within a year if they make it a priority.

I read weeks ago about his intention to improve the European 1000m record
but he said things about other runner, I didn't them to be exploited (in the bad side) in this forum.

Yes Wanyonyi can get this record and probably improve it a decent bit. Festus Lagat ran sub-50 at Kenyan Trials in the last lap of the 1500 and wasn’t even the hardest-luck loser.

Also noting Jude Thomas 3:31.8 and runner up to Chapple, Ciattei 3:32.0 3rd. Thomas on merit should go over Hoare to Tokyo but it looks unlikely.

Thomas has run slower this year and placed lower at the Australian national championships than Hoare.

Hoare is also a comm games Gold medallist and OG finalist.

There is not much splitting them this year so you have to go with Hoare.

The same as Cam Myers being overlooked last year despite clearly having a lot more upside than Stuey for future years.

Fantastic performance.

I'd love to see a 1000m race with the top 800m guys vs the top 1500m guys.

Wanyonyi, Arop, Sedjati, Hoppel, Tual, Attaoui, Burgin, Hoey Hocker, Jakob, Kerr, Nuguse, Kessler, Laros etc. in a 1000m race would be EPIC

Well I am impressed. Attaoui is firmly entrenched as a medal threat and even a potential Gold Medalist, however unlikely.
