The rule is on the books at the elite level, but rarely enforced. I believe there was a controversy involving Tauofik Makhloufi and the honest effort rule at the Olympics once.

I still think it is still possible he may only race 1 event.
Say what you will about Ingy, but this guy is fearless lol. Injured for 4 months, hasn’t raced a single time all season, he could’ve easily just done the 5 which is obviously his better event but he decided to take the bull by the horns and go for it.

You don’t see anybody scratching at NCAA either. There must be consequences, which is why you don’t see scratches at NCAA. These 5000m (and 1500m) spots at WC are hard to get. Knight ran 13:03 and is staying home. People shouldn’t get greedy by simply taking spots that they do not intend to use.

I don't think Moe Berg would do well this championship. They didn't anticipate that he would go to the worlds so he timed his peak earlier. With that said, he is 19 so who cares lol. It's still nice for him to gain some experience.

Certainly. There was a controversy with Makhloufi in London 2012, but that’s the only time I’ve ever been aware of it in the international level.
