There is no such thing as "money better spent". Kipchoge has built himself a name, that can be capitalized on, therefore is getting paid. Upcoming athletes haven't done much yet and therefore have little value to sponsors.

My thoughts exactly haha as long as the money is being offered to him, he won’t be going anywhere. And while he may be a “shell of his former self,” he is still managing to compete at an elite level.
The record was set by a 2: 08 runner that treated it as a training run. It’s a soft record and if Kipchoge eclipses it, his WR will still be a soft one. There will be at least 50 guys walking around that can run faster for the distance.
