I’ll play. This would be the worst thing that could happen to the sport. If Jakob were successful, it would cause many athletes to adopt a similar strategy of not racing and then only showing up for major championships. DL meets would be filled with no names and second tier scrubs. No one would watch. The money would dry up. Pros already don’t race enough and that hurts the sport. I’m not buying tickets, streaming, or traveling to see a minor league event. Imagine the Super Bowl being contested by the MAC Conference champion vs. a good Texas high school side. The Daytona 500 is just a field of local hick kids in their Dodge Chargers and some Asan kids driving rice rockets because the NASCAR teams don’t feel like racing in February?
This sport is already on the verge of irrelevance.

Isn’t he known as the guy who shows up to race everything (track/xc/roads once in a while) when he’s not injured.

So no changes for the top American athletes then (excluding Nuguse and Hoey), and soon to be naturalized US citizen Josh Kerr.
This strat already has a name: Kerseeing (v). "I'm gonna do a training block which means I'll be kerseeing myself out of the DL circuit."
He was never actually injured, he has just spent all summer training hard to peak for this championship. Expect 3:24 and 12:29.
Injured enough to not race—but not too injured to stop training! Jakob has been consistently training without any need to lay off leading up to races. He will walk into Tokyo with a massive aerobic base. The 5K will be another easy W. The 1500 will be a gritty win. Double gold.

Jakob has never in any universe whatsoever been capable of 3:24 or 12:29. People have no idea. 1/10 as you will get some bites.
Really? 3:26 not close?. 7:17 3k?
I didn’t say anything about how close Jakob could have ever gotten to 3:24 or 12:29 at his peak. My guess is 3:26.22 and 12:33 or so. But that ship may have sailed by now. We shall see.
The injury wasn’t faked and he’s never running 3:24, but I hope he’s fit enough to compete for gold. Wishful thinking maybe, but he was great last year after not racing for 8 months, and don’t forget he opened his 2025 campaign with a double world record.

To be fit enough to win a 1500m gold, he has to be at 100%. He was at peak fitness at Paris and still finished 4th. This year is even more competitive and I think it will take miracle for him to win.

True. There is a lot of randomness when all runners run at the same time. Jakob would’ve finished first in an ITT.

The guy has run 3:26 and 7:17. One year ago. He is 24 years old.
When the downfall of Jakob the extremely rare and favorized event is confirmed (it could happen this year or in a couple of years), so will be the wave imitating him.
And the rule of 50 years will come back again.
Remember the U20 5000m African championship 2025, ended in a better time (13mins 22 secs) than US championships and U23 European championship 2025.
