I'm surely not the first person to have said this but I'll say it again. Yared Nuguse has had an incredibly disappointing season in the 1500m this year. He can't seem to beat any of the top guys this year (Laros, Kerr, P. Koech, Hocker, J. Koech to name a few), and has very poor tactics and positioning when he's in a race with other guys that can run sub 3:30 (Bowerman Mile, DL Final, USA Champs to name a few).
To put it into perspective, in Nuguse's one DL win this year, a race in which he ran 3:33, he didn't even close faster than Niels Laros in Brussels (25.7 final 200m to 25.5 final 200m).
Nuguse's best shot at winning a global medal might be in the 5000. Those guys naturally don't have the same foot speed that 1500 runners do, and Nuguse's best attribute has always been his ability to hold on to fast paces for extended periods of time (mile WR attempts, Olympic Final). That works perfectly in the 5000, the king of modern endurance events. I see no reason as to why he can't run at least a 12:50, qualify for Worlds, try to control the pace and give himself a fighting chance for a medal.
