I was watching the main feed and didn't see this yesterday.
This was some good tv. US visitors, below you can watch Cooper Teare talking to Flotrack's Athletes Lounge commentators, as the men's 3000 was run. I've cued it so you can watch the final 500.
PS. Teare is a good analyst. His breakdown of the race was spot on. Early on, he said anything under 7:30 and he was feeling good about Grant. Over 7:30 and it's more random. Also 3k is more random than 5k for Grant.
All that shows is the stupidity of the system. Teare is sitting in his living room BS'ing with a few people online and could have "qualified" for Worlds if Grant Fisher wins the race.
Meanwhile, if Trey Cunningham would have won the Diamond League Final in a World Record time, he would have been told, "Sorry, maybe next time."
WINNERS ONLY should get wild cards; the country should not get a 4th runner unless that 4th is the WINNER.
Copper was a great sport, knowing what was at stake. I would have been screaming and throwing stuff.
Grant was pushed and it cost him the race , which sucks
He probably did that off camera. Either that, or it will sink in eventually. Devastating, unfortunately. Oh well, if he makes the next team in 27 or Olympics in 28, all is forgiven.

I believe that top 3 at USATF should qualify, and no one else.

that only makes sense in a context where every country has a trials similar to the USA. but they don't. we have the toughest system to work through.
also, the timing of diamond league finals shouldn't have a negative affect on 4th runners getting in. if the DL finals were in late June, somebody like Fisher winning would already mean that Teare qualified.
It's just not as straightforward as we'd all like it to be. Teare getting in would be no less legit than someone like Jake Wightman getting picked for his team.
As others have pointed out, officials let Africans get away with moves like - and much worse - all the time. The Africans, as has been shown, are fully aware of being able to pull the race card if they end up being called on this crap. Some of them need a few elbows to the temple to get their minds in the right place.
He said he didn’t even know it was possible for him to go a week before the race. How’s that? He had a good analysis but man just seems like he was sort of relieved he didn’t make it.
Exactly He must earn a spot. He is not at the level required for WC period. His career as a professional unfortunately is already over. He will never win anything.
I’d to see love Teare (can’t just call him Cooper anymore thanks to Lutkenhaus) take the next step and be a threat to win US champs/ contender on the world stage.

I think it’s pretty straightforward actually. Earn your spot by finishing top 3/getting selected at nationals, or earn it by winning the previous worlds, or the upcoming regular season championship. The defending world champ is obviously known in advance, so no confusion there.
"costing him a spot at Worlds"? For crying out loud, Cooper Teare finished 5th in his national selection trials! Not finishing in the top 3 is what "cost him" the spot.

C. Teare 'only' has the 24th fastest time in the world for 5k this year, and his World Athletics world ranking also puts him 24th position.
There are 7 guys from Ethiopia that have run a faster 5k than him this year, and 8 Ethiopians with a better world ranking ahead of him in the 5k.
In a true world championship affiliation with any country/nation would not be considered to the extent it is now
Teare would be running in that type of world championship, as would many additional Ethiopians that are not going to be running in Tokyo.
