Coach Scannell has been at Hamilton HS since 2023. In that time, he has led the men’s cross country team to a runner-up finish at the AIA State Championship in 2023 and a State Championship Title in 2024. The 2024 Team set the Arizona State record for lowest point total in Az history. Also in 2024, Hamilton HS had the mens individual State Champion. The women’s team finished runner-up in 2024 which was the highest placing ever for the Huskies.
Obviously a good coach. I somewhat understand the comments about being cocky. There's something about his personality that rubs me a little the wrong way. Not egregiously at all. He's just not that guy I like listening to for talking shop. But he's good, and he obviously has coached some tremendous teams.

Bro is seriously cringe when he talks. Not a likable dude at all. Honestly, the perfect comparison is Tinman—they both act like they're always right and like no one else knows anything. That’s exactly why, in the long run, they don’t make great coaches on many levels.
he comes off pretty arrogant, but I think he's self aware. he often covers himself by saying there are other ways to do it. but his tone is definitely that his way is the best way. I suppose the coach or a world class runner should think they're doing things ideally though, right?

“Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don’t.”
Honestly, this is exactly why both Mike and Tom are bad in the long haul.

Yes and no. The fact is he’s been just an above average high school coach for decades. Noting to write home about makes his attitude very uncomfortable to listen to.
Honestly, is masterminding his own training. It’s definitely a bizarre situation, but I’m still a fan of Grant himself.
His “coach / part time advisor” is bad high school coach with no success but Grant.
He has the tone of an enthusiastic high school teacher. I can see why it rubs people the wrong way, especially when he is speaking to athletes that are adults. However, what I do like is that he is not afraid to give constructive feedback to his athletes, and he clearly wants to ensure that his training is defensible and absorbed by his athletes (vs breaking them down, like Schumacher).

His teams were not great in high school for a self proclaimed know it all.
Most forget Grant wasn’t even the best track athlete he coached at the high school level. He had a mid distance teammate who was even better at the time also coached by Scannell. Good try though. As for now, seems to be doing fine and mastered his coaching.
