Hocker should do everything he can to be top 3 and in striking distance for gold when he uncorks his last 100. That might be from sitting on Laros, but he doesn't have to key on one competitor, but rather get to the front of the race. Similar to how Kerr has been so successful.

Why are we debating about what Hocker needs to happen to win when we already know? He needs a repeat of the 2024 Olympic 1500m final. An incredibly hot race in which he can tuck in 3rd-6th, move into 2nd/3rd from 1200m-1400m, and find a gap over the last 100m.
Laros has a more dangerous last 100m. Hocker needs to be in perfect position with 100m to go, and that position has to be better than Laros's.

You’re making the case that Hocker has some special gear that lasts for about 100m and doesn’t necessarily correlate with strength or leg speed. I can say that from my observations that at elite level it’s just speed vs strength and if the pace is fast enough, Hocker won’t kick. He actually got passed by a 5/10 guy coming down the stretch in an indoor 3000m.
My belief is Laros will have the edge over Hocker in a more tactical race.
