come on now. Big difference between running Boston hills at his pace and hiking the hills of France, Italy and Switzerland.

I love how all the ultra fan boys think that kenyans can’t run hills. The rift valley is full of hills. Mt. Kenya is over 17,000 ft. Iten, Eldoret, and Ngong Hills are all at about 7,000-8,000 feet elevation with loads of hiking trails and surrounding hills and mountains. Get out of your racist bubble and read a book.

Dude. Walmsley ran 2:15:05 at the Atlanta Olympic Marathon Trials. That course has more uphill than Boston and he's a fantastic downhill runner. I seriously doubt he'd blow uo at Boston.

Wait, do you actually think a guy that ran a 2:15 would be able to hold pace with Kipchoge who split the half in 1:02 in Boston, would not blow up massively by mile 8 and drop out of the race?

There is a really good reason he is running trails and not competing on the roads. And I guarantee it isn’t because he “enjoys the trails” more

You don't understand how different a 2-hour race is from a 20-hour one. You need to get your body used to taking in lots of calories, not just a few random gels. Then there's technical trails, including downhills. Very different from hilly dirt roads. Zero change Kipchoge would win on his first try.

He logs over 180 miles a week. I’ve got a hunch his body can handle the terrain if he wanted to. As for fueling, you don’t move your body that much week after week, and stack it over decades of running at the Olympic and world championship level off of a few gels. I’ll bet the odds of him winning are a lot higher than some hobby joggers who switched to trails in their mid 20’s

Still very different physiologically. Look at all the 2:0low marathoners who burn up at Comrades, and that race is 5-6 hours on roads vs 20 at UTMB on lots of technical trails. You have no idea what you're talking about.

He was racing other elite marathoners, not a bunch of lumbersexual hikers.

Willie Mtolo, NYC marathon winner, only got silver twice. I misremembered, "only" a 2:08 guy but still.
