I did the Michigan recently. They said go out at tempo but it was hard for me to figure it out, should have gone out at 7:00 flat, but the paces yo-yoed (6:52, 7:11, 6:58) for each segment.
Also, we did standing rest instead of jogging, and tempos corresponded to the faster segment lengths, rather than straight 1-mile tempos. Is this the "easy" version of the Michigan? Felt strong throughout, a little bit tired but felt I could have done more. Last 800 in 2:56 and last 400 in 76, strong and flying at the end. Not puking or horror story dead at the end (like I've read here and on reddit). Tough but controlled...are you supposed to be dead in this one?
