Don't get me started about Waxahachie. Graham Hummel is a great runner, but not 14:29... yet.

The other two that went sub-15 have only ever broken sub-16 at Waxahachie... so yes, that's not a 5k course.

Marcus race this weekend will be big. Lots of the top teams are running, especially for the girls.

Waxahatchie has never been a 5k. There is a good chance it isn't even a full 3.0. Same goes for most of the South Texas courses. Milesplit never questions anything turned in, no matter how absurd.

Isn't Rogers, AR going to be there, too?

They will be at Southlake next week, not at this race.

Not to take anything away from the Lattas (huge fan, nice kids), but Tully arbitrarily lowered the adjustment here. He's used -87 for this race last year for both and this year for the guys, then switched to -81 for the girls' race this year. Each of the speed ratings should be 3 lower in that race. Unless there was some adjustment to the course between races, I just don't get it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that. Did he say it was due to heat? Or was it just not where he wanted the number to be?

I've been noticing more and more bias among speed raters and those who are on selection committees (even if we're not supposed to know who they are.)

There is definitely "steering" involved in the whole national scene.

The girls' race was at 8, boys at 830, so there shouldn't have been an adjustment for the girls. I am going to go with either he didn't like the number or he fat-fingered the 7 to a 1.

I would not put to much stock in those speed ratings. Marcus is ranked lower than SA Patriot meet and its just as flat (go look at strava). Lovejoy is more challenging then both of them and he has that speed rating lower then Marcus. So, just like rankings its subjective.

Agree on not reading too much into them, but if they are out there, I like to look at them.

That being said, the Marcus T adjustment has been: -108 (2023), -123 (2024) and -117 (2025).

Interestingly enough, the weather was ~73 this year at race time, 76-80 last year and 72-77 in 2023.
