A couple surprises are Sinclaire Johnson in the 150m and Josette Andrews in the 3000m. I thought both would just miss out.

I get that many athletes have a training schedule leading up to Worlds, but to miss out on a single (competitive) race with good prize money (50K 1st place for quite a few events) seems like poor planning ?! Russell running in the pouring rain in Lausanne, but not running for 50K 8 days later in Zurich ? Melissa JW running Brussels, but says no to 50K in Zurich 6 days later ?

Hiltz, Tsegay and Kipyegon were ahead of her in the standings but not running, apparently.

If a wildcard entry wins, do they get the auto-bid into worlds?

Looking at the mens' 800m, it's clear 1:42 mid is the new 1:44 low/1:43 high.

Johnson in the 150m is very surprising. I had her pegged as more of a middle distance runner. The last time I saw someone run the 150 was Michael Johnson vs Donovan Bailey. That did not live up to the hype.

I'm 99% sure not, because they aren't considered the DL champion, and it's the DL champion who gets an automatic spot.

3K is relatively weak, Fisher is likely the favorite. This is why Drew Hunter should have chased the standard post USAs, because if Fisher (Or Blanks) wins he could have gone to Worlds. Instead will go to Cooper Teare.

It’s a little dumber than that. A global wild card would be considered Diamond League champion, but a national (Swiss) wild card would not.

Global wild cards get the diamond league crown and the automatic bid to the world championships but not full prize money, and the reverse for national wild cards.

My mistake, thanks for the clarification. It's still a bit confusing. E.g., in the women's 800m in Zurich, Audrey Werro is entered, and it's not unrealistic that she could win. But there's no indication if she's a global or Swiss wild card.

A global wildcard must be one of the following

– World record holder
– Reigning world, Olympic or Diamond League champion
– Top 5 in the World Athletics rankings of their event
– Top 20 in the overall World Athletics rankings

Lots of stars missing and it seems like injuries for athletes like: Welteji, Dos Santos, Muhammad, Peruth Chemutai.
Very restricted racing from Kejelcha, Aregawi, Nico Young, Rai Benjamin, El Bakkali.

The women’s 3k is the craziest. Hannah Nuttall and Georgia Griffith are 23rd and 24th in the Diamond League standings and got spots in the final.

Yeah I was shocked by how bad that field was. All the best women are doubling and don’t want to do it, or maybe in the case of Ethiopia arent allowed to, not sure.

I hope Hoey and Nuguse can pull it off but the 800 and 1500m look pretty deep. Not impossible for them to win but it’ll be tough.

Odd that Hiltz is passing up opportunity to win DL final and bank $50k. She was in Europe just a few days ago. What’s another 1500 when she still has plenty of time before Worlds?

I'm astonished at these Kenyans/Ethiopian that are bright at U20 world championships, then struggle after that (with the exception of Wanyonyi).

Ethiopia its well known they have a bad mangement of sport.
