Sonia great athlete talking nonsense for its own sake.
What wtfsillysonia said.
When Maxie Parks pulled on the anchor leg of the 4x400 at the 1977 World Cup, the US lost not just that race, but the whole meet. (Not saying that Parks went into the race injured.)
If Adeleke tries to run the relay while hurt and DNFs, the other 3 gals lose out, and the gal that Adeleke replaces loses out too, and of course Ireland loses out.
Quincy Wilson and the US were lucky that he didn't DNF in Paris and that they made the final. He ran even though his hamstring was not 100%
My family never left here, going back centuries now, I live here, I work here I was educated here, my Kids were born here..Please God, their kids will be born here too.
Sonia has been sounding extra spunky since her NCAA title
I did think Adeleke should run the relays. This is a brief window for Ireland, with Mawdsley in her late prime
But Sonias point is different. Adeleke hasn't been transparent, of she's injured she needs to take stock and shutting it down is the correct call.
If it's a mental thing because she hasn't progressed this year (and I don't believe it is) she could have run the mixed and salvaged a season, the rest of the relay pool haven't been pulling up trees either and that may have factored into her decision.
Raftery had a decent breakthrough but only just sub 45. not exactly world level
Conor Kelly would be next man up but he's still a U20 and a few years away.
Phil Healy ran 54 on Wednesday and time seems to have caught her. Becker was injured all year and won a decent National title but only in 52 high.
Mawdsley lost her Dad in the summer and was on holidays with Mickey Breen the Tipp hurler right when I would have been expecting her to be racing or in camp.
To medal ireland need all systems firing, the stars to align and to have a bit of Luck with competitors, none of those things are happening this year unfortunately

Clearly Ireland were never going to medal in either the mixed 4x4 or women's 4x4 unless every athlete was at least as good as last year, and that is not happening.
As has been said above, other than Mawdsley (who's had her own personal issues, but has run well) Adeleke, Becker & Healy have all been below form.
Maybe it would have been 'good for Ireland' if Adeleke ran the relays, but I'm not convinced it would have been good, mentally, for an already below form Adeleke.
My only contradictory point is that there are no global championships next year for her, just the Europeans and then that experimental, invite-only "World Athletics Ultimate Championships". So no conventional World Championships until 2027. A lot can happen in two years, so sometimes you have to take the opportunities as they arise. In that sense, a run-out in the relays, for the team, could have been beneficial.

I think people underestimate the esteem in which Irish Athletes and the Irish public hold the European champs.
They're in Birmingham so there will be a huge Irish support. It's very accessible to the entire country not just from Dublin.
In order to win it she'll have to do something she's never done before and beat Natalia Bukowiecka. Then you also have a Henriette Jager coming off what is looking like the season of her life, Amber Anning, Potentially Femke Bol and there may be athletes like Anastazja Kuś ready to make a jump.
None of that is a given even for a fully fit and firing Adeleke.

And Rashidat Adeleke is as Irish as I am.
The virtue signaling is off the charts. You need to take in some refugees. Please don’t lie and claim you already have. Move them in and let them keep the old lady company while you’re away. Bloody bómán. Likely a rootless poser.

And which virtue did I signal you Langer.
What have refugees got to do with anything? Rashidat did not come to this county seeking Asylum, she was born here.
As was I. Those are facts.
She would know well that If you Google insults as Gaeilge you would never call anyone a Bómán, no Irish person would.
She would call you a Gowl
