Kessler was too far back to catch any of the top runners

Btw, what's Hocker's fastest final 100m ever? Was it in the 2021 US Olympic trials? (3:35.28 with a final 100m of 12.3(?) )

If your willing to go off the on-screen clock, his last 100m from the 2021 NCAA 3000m was around 12.1-12.2. I would assume this is his fastest.

That’s a thundering kick, but obviously Cheruiyot’s positioning still needs work. He was nearly a full second back from Nuguse with 100m to go in a slow race.

both cheruiyots had awesome closing speed, but tough to leave it to the last 100. I think a race like this shows you how many different guys can be dangerous if the championship is something like 3:32 to 3:35.

everybody was still kind of in the race until 200 to go. Nuguse (and maybe Hoey) was the only one who responded to the Nordas move that started from 300 out, when Nuguse felt him just in time around the 200.

fairly similar to USAs, where strand went on the backstretch. Koech responded around 200. Hocker waited until close to 100.

Hocker famously ran the last 100 at 2021 Trials in 12.20.

The closes from the Cheruiyots were crazy. It seems like the big impact of Tim’s joining the Lewandowski group is his sprint top-end is really at a new level. His 50-low close at Kenyan Trials, and now this. He’s always been 12-hi capable in fast races, but now he has low-12s for slow ones.

For Reynold, he said he’s worked on his last 100 and overall strength work, but he needs to learn how to position better to ever medal.

All reasons why the thread is comparing the time to other 1500 closes, not 100 meter dashes or the second half of a 200.

Crazy that Tim is both a guy who can close in 12.2 and front ran the Doha final. He’s the unsung hero of this era of 1500 meter running and probably the one who most shaped the event in the past decade next to Jakob

Reynold Cheruiyot looks very buff

It would be very cool to see him medal this year. 2022 he was in position to medal but an eventually banned Katir elbowed him backwards with a dodgy inside pass in the last 200 and might’ve stolen a medal (in multiple ways). In 2023, he pulled his hamstring in the heats. Then last year he was hurt until March, which cost him by round 3 in Paris. He was top 2/3 in nearly all his other races including the DL final.
