The timing is impeccable. Is this a FU to the Paul Allen and His Sister? The Blazers were sold for 4 billion Yesterday.
.....a team he paid 70 million for. Seahawks sale will be next. Dude has (had) some dough. But Phil Knight has some major catching up to do even after this donation. He's donated roughly 1/10th his net worth so far while Paul Allen committed to donating 1/2.
Phil Knight's net worth is estimated to be around $35.4 billion as of August 2025, according to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index. Estimates vary across sources, ranging from $32.1 billion to $46.6 billion.
Nike shoes are primarily assembled in Vietnam, China, and Indonesia, which account for about 72% of their production.
The average hourly wage for factory workers in Vietnam, including those in footwear assembly, is approximately VND 68,000 (around USD 2.99). For Nike-specific factories, reports suggest wages can range from USD 2 to USD 4 per day, which translates to roughly USD 0.25 to USD 0.50 per hour, assuming an 8-hour workday.
$0.25 per hour to workers so Knight can be worth $40 billion.

He's quite a guy!
And now you need to fill in the cost of living math to see if you have even made a valid point. Just because the numbers are low to your expectation of an American salary doesn’t mean it is.

$0.25 per hour to the workers so that the owner can be worth $40 billion! 25 effin cents!
Now you need to explain why you think that's just fine and dandy.

Cost of living is about four times higher in USA. I guess the factory workers are living the high life on the equivalent of $1 per hour.
Cost of living in Vietnam compared to United States. We provide several metrics to compare the cost of living including cost of groceries, transportation, and more.

All of your goods, electronics, and clothes, Nike or not, use cheap labor similar to this.
I don’t pay attention to what things cost and I don’t like paying taxes. is there a way we can make poor people pay more for imported goods and also reduce taxes on rich people? That would be nice.

It's his money. He can do with as he pleases. He does not need to answer to some anonymous poster on a message board.
Instead of complaining at what he has given, acknowledge that he is giving to a great cause (and not just an athletic department).
That’s an incredible act of generosity, $2B will be transformational for cancer research and care. Phil Knight’s commitment shows how philanthropy can truly change the future of medicine.
