2025 Chicago Marathon Field is out: Jacob Kiplimo, John Korir, Conner Mantz, return of Galen Rupp

She didn’t test positive for a PED. She should be allowed to compete - HCTZ has no performance benefits.

It is a masking agent. Someone running upwards of 120 miles is retaining water? Has heart disease? If they need to take HCTZ, they probably shouldn't be running at such a high-level.

On the W side, some heavy hitters who might've entered Chicago are slotted for the Tokyo 25 marathon: Amane Beriso, Tigst Assefa, YY. Ethiopia selected Taye as a reserve for the 10000m, so there's a slim chance she races both distances in Sep/Oct.

The Clinger entry surprised me a bit. He has only raced once longer than 10k, beating Klecker & Talbi over 25k in May 2025. I thought he'd knock down a half this fall, target making the US World XC Champs squad and start his marathon career in 2026, but maybe Eyestone believes he's ready to roll now.

I sure hope the Chicago Marathon is taking extra precautions in light of their dark history with past winners subsequently getting caught doping.

This would be a good question for Gault or the Brojos to ask at a press conference - are they taking any additional measures?

You're right in one thing that she didn't test positive for a PED, she did however test positive for an absurd level of a banned substance that is used as a masking agent so PEDs can't be detected. She absolutely should not be allowed to compete.

What sort of 'extra precautions' would you recommend?

I think they do want a winner this year that people perceive as clean. But next year will go right back to courting the dopers to make sure they can market as being a fast major.

More delayed payout of money, additional out of comp testing, restricting prize money to runners with an established testing history. That won't ensure a clean race, but it's a good start.

They certainly didn’t stay away from Rosa and his athletes. Maybe it’s unfair but I think they should go to Rosa and Nike and add some special conditions as the poster above alludes to. A longer payout schedule and some strict liability to spare the race more embarrassment.

Andrew and Tristin Colley will likely be added to the field.

I think Clinger is not only going to beat the American debut marathon record, I think he is going to smash it.

I'm a bit confused to not see Creed Thompson on the list, given that I think he believes he is going to run Chicago.

Oh wow... the sky is the limit for Kiplimo in this race. Many Kenyans like John Korir talk a big game. But it's the modest types like Kiplimo who take down the records.

Also, public service announcement: Geoffrey Kamworor is still alive and relevant. Silver at London in 2023 and 4th at World XC. He deserves to be mentioned.

A sub-2:10 for Rupp seems like a good target for an old man comeback. Hopefully he isn't in the appearance fee collection phase of his career just yet.
