He says he had a setback with his achilles but he never really said when. He said the last 8 weeks have been good but not sure if that is when the setback happened. He also said he got an illness around the time of his irritation as well.
He also alludes to the steeple but he doesn't have the standard. I think he is just going to run the 5000m and then close his season until indoors.

As far as the steeple - I think it's more likely he goes for the WR after Tokyo. Toward the end of the video, he talks a good bit about doing different races after the WCs. Seems like some road races and different events are on the table.
I think he sees that his "start" for the season will be at the end of the traditional calendar, but he's gonna want to keep pushing. He says he wants to race into October, and November, so possibly some road races too. Between missing most of this season and next year not having a WC or Olympics, he seems like he'll be pretty creative this fall. I'm all for it.

I just got to that part of the video. Doesn't seem like a good idea really. I don't really care if he breaks any road records. He certainly won't break the HM or Marathon. He can try world XC I guess.

Sounds like what many of us already suspected. He had setbacks but he's progressing with his main focus on being ready for Tokyo. He backed out of races to focus on training and not take unnecessary risks.
He sounds very eager to continue racing after worlds.
This is the biggest problem with Jakob. He has such an enormous aerobic base but his body just cannot handle the load. This may be the end of him racing a ton. I predict he retires by end of next year. He needs a full year of rest for his achilles to figure out what is happening but usually these injuries never heal.

Agreed. He says his irritation returned and his main objective is to race more after worlds?? He will get injured again guaranteed. He needs to race at Worlds and rest until next outdoor season to figure out what is going on. Or else he will be on and off with his achilles and potentially never run again.

He's not retiring. Achilles injuries do heal.
Not always. This is his 2nd time getting the injury which has made him sit out the whole season. That isn't even the worst part. When you get pain like that your running form deteriorates. He will start running on a limp and it will just be reoccurring. He may even get other side injuries as well. While I was a little bold with my prediction, it is certainly a possibility. He needs to take some time off, preferrably a year to figure it out (surgery, alternative training plans, expensive treatments etc).
But I think prioritizing speed would just help him have a chance to perform well in a fast closing 5000. If there is still even a hint of injury, I can’t see him realistically thinking it would be wise to run multiple 1500s.

Mods can you delete this guy's account or make him change his name? Very scummy to be called "Official Jakob Ingebrigtsen" when you are not in fact the official Jakob Ingebrigtsen and are not affiliated with him in any way.

I didnt like that either. It woild be fun to see him do steeple, some road races etc, but it seems like he rather should take the time to get 100% again rather than racing more. But who knows.

Yeah, he sounds very motivated. Hopefully he stays healthy these 4 weeks
