Mackay, Rooks and Roe are likely seeking the massive ranking points you get for the win. 150 points if you win. That’s a sizeable boost for Roe if she’s seeking a 10k spot at worlds, and for Rooks and Mackay they are probably looking at things for next year. I’m surprised more athletes are not taking advantage of this points sweepstakes.

I expect rooks to be pacing Michalski then dropping out because Michalski still needs points to book his ticket to Tokyo. Remember - Michalski paced Corrigan to help him qualify for the Olympics, so Michalski is owed a favor.

Even if Rooks finishes and wins, but pulls Michalski to a fast time in 2nd, that will be enough for Michalski.

Heat index of 100 degrees every day next week is going to make hitting a standard or running a fast time very difficult.

Aside from Roe, are the three other women (with D2/D3-level pbs) entered in the 10000m pacers or racers?

Very interestingly, Trayvon Bromell is listed both on the NACAC and on the Silesia DL 100m start list on the same weekend. Have not checked for any other coincidences for other athletes, but presuming one of the meets is going to eventually blink and say he's not coming

Roe is already qualified in newest world rankings. This does not seem to make much sense.

They really screwed over Evelyn Bliss here in the women's Javelin. She's the highest ranked athlete in the US that isn't high enough in the world rankings right now and just won the US championships and she doesn't get to be on the team? This is likely her best chance to make it to World champs as she's currently 17 points below the bubble and would need to boost her overall top-5 score by 85 points. Just throwing around what she threw at USAs, she'd be capable of winning this meet and helping herself boost her way into the rankings quota to make the Worlds team. She's only a sophomore too, so it would be a really good experience. She even got a medal at World U-20s and threw a PR at US Champs last year, so she has already shown she can show up for these meets (which is much more than can be said for Maggie Malone-Hardin her entire career).

NACAC is awesome and a comparatively "easy" way to earn an international medal.

Lopez Lomong had a long career but his only two medals are from NACAC. Surely there are other examples.

OMG. Poor Teare and Hunter. They could both have gone to Oordegem and run a PB. Instead, they are simply facing each other. #4 seed has 13:38PB and #4 has a 14:26PB. In addition, they will be running in 100 degrees + weather.

The USA has a zillion good 1500m runners. Why didn't we enter someone????? Anyone????

Teare wouldn’t have PBed, but for Hunter I mean this is a pretty brutal decision.

What's the history with this meet have so many ranking points allocated? Usually such a lack of depth would get them reduced pretty fast. The sprint fields are okay of course, but usually that is not enough. Simply being a regional championship (that few attend) puts it on par with something like the European Championships?

It is a Senior Area Championship and thus is categorized as a 'GL" meet by WA. NACAC, European Champs, Oceanic Champs, Asia Champs, African Champs, and South American Champs are all rated the same. The level of competition does not matter. That is why it is an easy method to get a lot of points and because the NACACs are held every three years or so, the points are active for a very long time.

Reminds me of GB just straight up not entering athletes in world events they are qualified for because they didn't meet some stricter internal standard.
