Hell, it doesn't even have to be 4 men. It could be 3 men and 1 sixteen-year-old kid. The sub 1:40 barrier is going to get QUADRUPLE-SMASHED, and you can mark my words.
Noone will ever go sub 1:40. You're talking like someone starting sub 49 and holding on with a sub 51. Noone ever tries to go out in sub 49.
Rudisha went out in 49.3 and came back in 51.6. Nobody who goes out in sub 49 is gonna come back in sub 51. Impossible.
That Cooper Lutkenhausen guy went out in 50 point and came back in 51 something, and looked like a bat out of hell and exploded the boards. He is going to come back in sub 51 after starting more than a second faster? Try 53 maybe, just like everyone who went out in 49 in that race.
There is very little room for improvement at the top end of 800m performance. There's no outliers, hasn't been one for decades by now.

I didn’t realize that Hoey went out faster than Rudisha. Pretty bold (without a rabbit)

Someone will eventually break 1:40.
No one is two words.
I agree that someone eventually will.
However, if it happens any time soon it would be such an outlier that the track, shoes, bicarb, and training wouldn't explain it (those are already baked into the cake for what guys are running).
Let's assume that anyone who could dream of it, among today's cast of runners, might already be "to the gills." If so, dropping the remaining time would require a new rocket fuel that would make EPO look like broccoli.

Just to be clear, you're saying we need to mark your words?

That's correct. We are marking the words of an anonymous poster.

And mark MY words, that it wil never happen.
Each day that it doesn't happen, such as today, remember my words. I said it first.
