I agree with the OP. Lutkenhaus has been competing at a high level since January. It has been a long season. Time to shut it down. Rest up. Hang out at the water park with friends. He is a 16 year old kid. His physical and mental health should be prioritized.

If he was just able to PR by 3 whole seconds, then clearly whatever he was doing from January to now shouldn't have been that taxing on his body. I think one more meet should be fine
No way, but being school just started back up, I wonder if he can maintain this level. Highschool hours don't allow a whole lot of rest with what I imagine is pretty serious training levels.

Yep. And then he will improve by another 3 seconds. Or maybe by only 1.35 secs.

I assume he will be well past his peak but the experience will only help him for the future. 2028 is a long way away. His coach clearly knows what he is doing so far so i trust he will figure it out. I assume Nike will offer him a sick contract today as well lol.
WTF?? As impressive at it was there is no guarantee he will ever make it back. Ask Brazier how injuries can derail you. He can rest all fall. The 1:47s he ran during high school season clearly weren’t too taxing if he’s actually a 1:42 guy.

There is no saving for the future with this kid. He is here. Now. 1:42 guys run in global championships. There's no guarantee he will make the Olympics or any other team in the future. Strike while the iron is hot regardless of age.
