I made a post a year or two ago about the "vanishing stars" that are visible on old astronomical photographic plates from the 1950's, but the mods deleted it. These 'stars' appear in one photo plate, but in the next photo plate an hour later they are gone.
Now astronomers have digitized many of the old pre-Sputnik astronomical photos and conducted a systematic survey and found numerous of such 'transients' that appear to be reflections of sunlight in low Earth orbit.
The weirdest thing is that some of these transients appear on the photo plates the same day as widely publicized UFO sightings.

I know it was a pre-internet, pre-space era, but there's pretty much no way anyone was launching stuff into space without others knowing. There would be people who knew, documents leaked, facilities, etc.
It's possible there's a boring explanation for this, but it really would not surprise me if it's legit also. You cannot understand the true size of the Universe without also understanding there's essentially no way life is unique to planet Earth. There are trillions of trillions of planets out there. That we are the only 1 of whatever that number is seems unlikely.

The idea that the US and USSR (presumably) had launched multiple satellites in the decade before and said NOTHING doesn't pass the smell test.

for it to be real aliens, you'd need a plausible explanation why they would be flying around and then disappear once we launched a spacecraft. Launching spacecraft wasn't what allowed us to see them, obviously, as we were already taking pictures of the stars. That doesn't sound like any advanced space aliens I ever met, they would probably just keep flying around, why would they care if they didn't before?

I had a great astronomy professor at UCLA in the early 1980s who told me about these over beers. He said they were a system of spheres that communicated with each other and were involved in some kind of surveillance in his opinion, and were related to "foo fighters" reported during WW2. An otherwise lucid guy I was afraid for his sanity at the time. He did defense contract work for a number of years after this conversation. I don't know what to think
