Nice article that's not a long read. Biggest piece of info is that his uncle is Gebregziabher Gebremariam (World XC champ in 2009, New York Marathon champ in 2010, 4th in 2004 Olympic 5000m), who he describes as his role model. Its no wonder then how Mehary is so talented.

Well I don’t know about all that. I would imagine that most world class runners have nephews who could easily be something short of world class in terms of talent. However, it doesn’t matter who his uncle is, the man is hugely talented, much like nobody seemed to know much about Kenenisa’s or Geb’s uncles.
I will add that I think BM has a good shot at winning a medal this year, and quite possibly Gold. He is allegedly 18 and to me he doesn’t look older than 20, if even that.
