How was spreading that over 3 days and having athletes run inferior events going to work
And then flying them first class and top hotels but not paying them
People collectively, generally have either the wrong or the right impression of an individual. If they thought MJ was a good guy, that's perhaps overlooking or being naive to what he's hiding-- his steroid use as an athlete. Would you expect a steroid user to not be a crook as a business man? He may have some land to sell ya then too.
This can be seen either way round. Should those who gave him the benefit of the doubt regarding doping now reconsider based on this venture?
Similarly, when Sebastian Coe became a Conservative MP, it confirmed things for a lot of people.

Of course it damaged his reputation. Whether he has personal liability or not, he was the driving force behind an endeavor that failed miserably. On top of that, the athletes haven’t received their promised prize money.

As a businessman? Probably.

-Because a sponsor retracted i think Johnsons credibility is still intact. I believe he went too big on star power a large pay scale too soon for a beginning. He should've started on a smaller scale and over the years expand if the interest and sponsors grew larger. The reach for the first season was an overreach.

If MJ contirms that all athletes will definitely receive their prize/appearance money by September, no lasting damage. MJ will be able to resume his usual commentating role with the BBC at the World Championships in mid September.

Yes
As an athlete many people had questions about him. He treated the fans (looking for autographs and all) like crap.
As a meet promoter/league owner he committed fraud by telling people they were going to get big payday when he knew GST had no money.
So no his time in the sport is done -thankfully
