How soft are we becoming?! This is ridiculous on so many levels!

I am sure the 9 year old was perfectly fine. The father wouldn't have done it if he wasn't sure his son was comfortable with it.
Just another reason why you don't want to have kids in the US.
What's race got to do with this

Agreed. If the kid was too soft to do the race, the dad should have left him home alone. No reason to buy the kid a VIP pass and have him wuss out and play video games all day.
I date a litany of single moms and I can say many of them leave their young kids at home unattended all the time (unfortunately). Not like daddy's ever around either though, but the mother is culpable for choosing a bad partner. They would never get hit with child neglect unless the child was seriously injured or dead due to them not being home. The child protection services are called daily and can confiscate children due to poor parenting, but leaving them at home while the broads at work would not even qualify to meet their threshold of neglect, which is apparently, very high. Not like foster care provides a better alternative for the kid in most cases anyways. It's too bad we can't choose our parents.
the key to dumping your kid for several hours at races is to scan the room and find the woman that looks about 50-55 - past the parenting era of her life, but before the grandparent stage. she will adopt your kid for the next 3 hours like her own grandchild and - bonus - probably feed him as well
Typical triathlete, probably doesn’t even know the name of his kid. Too busy training for his tattoo accomplishment.

Translation: Not only can a triathlete run faster than me, he does so after swimming and cycling hard.
Hahahahahaha.....
American culture has become insane. In Scandinavia, people leave babies outside restaurants in carriages because there’s a thought that “ everybody is watching the babies.”
WTF are you talking about? Leaving a 9yo unattended for more than 12 hours while you do a race is not OK in ANY culture.

My 9 year old could look after himself for much longer than that..
What do you think is going to happen?!

Dad was an Ironman racist.

lol. I was babysitting other people’s kids by 9yo. In what world is a 9yo in mortal danger if not in the immediate presence of their parents for a couple hours. Who was the Karen that called the cops?
This kind of thing was so much better than the crappy SORA and AI crap that looks real. I have seen this 100 times and I train for triathlons and still laugh every time I see this video.
To pull him out of the race, ok, I understand.
But why call the cops ? Totally unnecessary.
How mad was dad that he didn't get to finish the race, hahaha? I have a 9-year-old (along with two other kids) and I am pretty "free range" when it comes to parenting. Still, I think this is excessive. He should have at least told someone what was going on so that they knew. It sounds like the whole thing started b/c some volunteers noticed some random kid sitting around for 10+ hours without moving or talking to anyone. All dad had to to was get the kid a babysitter.

Yeah this is ridiculous. At least let the guy finish the race

I’m with you. When I was 9 we went out on our bikes first thing and didn’t come home until it got dark.
So funny that all these do gooders that think the kids in mortal danger been left alone are the same ones that are happy to keep them in sat on smartphones and iPads playing games where all these real weirdos and groomers hang out.

Idiotic comparison. The difference here is putting your child in a place where other adults FEEL they're responsible for your kid, which is what this tri-moron did. That is a no-no and a dick move. Nothing wrong with leaving a child that age at home without an adult. Or going on a bike ride by themselves. I do it all the time with my kids that age. But again, the difference is you're not putting a random adult in a position where they're babysitting your kid. Which is not their job.
Now, should the dude have been arrested? That's probably just a stupid as what the guy did in the first place.
