Indeed.
His music was not my top choice, but a few Black Sabbath songs were part of my growing up.
He was quite a personality and left his mark.
May he rest in peace.

Strange comment in that Keith Richards is nothing like Ozzy Osbourne as far as music goes.
Rest in peace, Prince of darkness.
Was he a phenomenal lyricist? No. Was he a tremendous vocalist? Also, no. But the man was an elite coattail rider. From Tommy Iommi, to Randy Rhoads, to Zakk Wylde, Ozzy had a real talent for finding great musicians to do the heavy lifting for him. Nevertheless, there's no denying that he is a godfather of heavy metal.
The OFFICIAL top five songs featuring Ozzy Osbourne:
1. Crazy Train
2. War Pigs
3. Mr. Crowley
4. No More Tears
5. Paranoid
Most of that is true, but I would give kudos for his strong unique voice.
Likely the very first heavy metal song was Helter Skelter, a Paul McCartney song with the Beatles from 1968, and doom metal I Want You (She's so Heavy) from John Lennon on the Beatles album Abbey Road the following year.
Ozzy loved the Beatles. And he took it from there and ran with it. For sure leaders in metal.
*a leader....
His final performance two weeks ago
Saw him in Merced along with Rod Stewart way back when.
Black Sabbath usually considered to be the first heavy metal band. Iron Man a classic.
RIP

You Really Got Me by the Kinks in 1964 (I think) was very heavy
