He said at the Olympics last year that it would be his last global championships on the track. He’s done pretty much everything there is to do, 5000m and 10000m Olympic Gold, 3x World Champion at 10000m, 5000m and 10000m world records. I think he would get more gratification now from succeeding on the roads than winning another 10000m world title.

Yes, as has been stated already, Cheptegei already announced that he was done with the track after last year's olympics. At the time, he kind of annointed Fisher as the man to beat.
Cheptegei doesn’t have much to prove left on the track - the only missing hole in the resume is a double (he came close in 2021).
But I suspect he would’ve tried to do it more if not for a certain 7:17 guy.
NN is a Dutch investment company so Amsterdam makes sense. Anyway might be good for him to win a race there (CR by Tola is 2:03 so it is decently fast) vs trying to go with the Sawes of the world in Berlin
He’s not a top marathoner yet, let him change things up a bit now.
Try to be sub 13:00 5k shape and run a quality thon is pretty hard.
IIRC Geb ran a 26:52 (or something like that) 10k only months before his WR (2:03 in old shoes)at 35. I think he could've run right around 13:00 at the time.

Good news for grant Fisher and Aregawi
This year is probably Fisher's best shot at winning a gold medal. He's set PR's at 3k and 5k and has shown to have a good kick and speed this year. With Cheptegei out there isn't a sub 26:30 guy on the scene right now (though Aregawi and Kejelcha could probably do it in the right race), and Fisher's indoor 5k world record is still the world lead.
I'm a bit mystified as to why his first couple cracks at the marathon were not more successful. Were his builds hampered by injury or something?
I do think he has the pedigree to be a world beater at the distance, but when you see other less talented athletes debuting at sub 2:03 is does make you wonder a bit.
Everyone saying Fisher, Aregawi or even Kejelcha to battle it out...how about the 10k Olympic champ who has run a 2.05 marathon and 6 months later a 3.32 1500? He'd be my pick for Tokyo.
