USATF Day 1/2 Not on NBC

I signed up for one month on 7/4 to see the LA meet and US Champs, and that will probably be it for a while

That is embarrassing that they don't have it on Peacock. I understand that T&F is not nearly popular enough in the US for NBC to show two days of mostly preliminary heats and expect people to watch them rather than watch their typical talk shows, game shows, and soap operas. People will watch the Olympic Games but they will not watch the prelim round of the USATF women's 100m at 3:47 on a Thursday.

However, Peacock is another story. People can watch any program they choose at any time. It is not like cable TV where everyone will have the same feed for NBC and it needs to be something that interests the masses. Put it on Peacock and let the people decide if they want to watch it or not. My guess is USATF wants to try to get 100% of the money for the first two days before splitting the rest with NBC. Gotta pay Max's well-deserved salary.

It stinks. A group of us had figured out this was gonna happen before the Prefontaine b mile, and I made the decision then to get usatf.tv. So the $12 paid for me to watch Strand win the b mile, and I knew I had this portion of us champs as well.

I hate it, but $12 is worth it for 3 separate days of very important track.

PK's buddy from BC, Canada didn't buy the empty time slot on the NBC Network.

Unless I've misread something the 100m final is Day 2. The 100m US championships won't be televised, outside of USATF's own streaming service.

I'm in the opposite position where I'm outside the US, so Peacock isn't available to me (even with a VPN -- it requires a US payment method). I can subscribe to USATF.tv and watch the other parts of the meet, but not the main TV window.

In 2023 when this event last took place, USATF.tv did offer a special simulcast of the NBC/Peacock feed geo-restricted to non-U.S. subscribers. But that's when they were with RunnerSpace; they've since switched platforms to Joymo, and I'm skeptical they'll offer that again (they didn't for Indoors).

I don't know if you noticed, but NBC and Peacock are only showing 2 hours of each of the 2 days they're covering the trials. That's really depressing to me. I signed up for Peacock a while back thinking they would provide good coverage of the trials and worlds.

On the plus side that is that much less time we have to endure Leigh Diffy

Stumptown a few days back was free to watch with decent enough announcing and I doubt their productions cost were that much. I can't imagine FT is making that much since on DL since it is so easy to get an international feed, BroJo blessed as well.

Here's an idea, have an alternate stream that's produced, filmed and announced by U of O or even Lane students. They get credit and experience and we don't have get hacky or hold our nose to pay some entity we hate.

This stinks. Just trying to watch some running. Ugh. Gonna have to check out Joymo I suppose now. Or whatever USATF.tv is now.

Europe has its own streaming platform and a lot of their stuff is available on YouTube live for free. Same for a gold bit of UKA stuff.

USATF needs a better media strategy. This current one stinks. Little exposure. Not much flexibility for sponsorship or deals. Or channel distribution. It’s just bad.

I want to say usatf.tv does not always (usually?) put their videos on YT. NBC will likely for those during their window.

Nike bought the air time, paid for the TV production, Assembled an all volunteer crew for your enjoyment.

Now clear that Peacock/NBC only care about the Olympics. I guess we already kinda knew that, but they seem to be making a point of covering as little as possible between the Games. Wont even use cost-free Peacock real estate.

Is it really that important? I’ll be there and expect to see a stadium that is 3/4 empty through the 4 days. How many will watch whatever NBC airs? Can’t blame USATF.tv for trying to drum up some eyeballs for their site. Flotrack has been worth it because it is the world feed, and avoiding Ato and Kara. Track is just not going to be any bigger in the US, regardless of the platforms available now. It’s a shame but it doesn’t generate enough interest, which means it doesn’t generate enough money for anybody to invest in it. Except for the Olympics.

Yes, you're correct. These events take place in the first two days, and they won't be shown live on a major television network or major streaming platform:

• Women's heptathlon
• Men's and women's javelin
• Men's and women's hammer
• Men's and women's long jump
• Women's high jump

That's a total of 13 events, including track's marquee event for men and women. It will be a missed opportunity to build off the momentum of last year's Olympics and showcase the talents and engaging personalities of athletes such as Anna Hall and Tara Davis-Woodhall.

Meanwhile, ESPN has coverage of NBA summer league games, little league softball regionals, and Savannah Bananas baseball. Very disappointing.
