The way Russia got band is because the media went nuts and demanded it. Truth to power.
Notice that when the government of Kenya pledged or agreed to invest $5 million per year into anti-doping, the positive tests went through the roof. They apparently reneged on that deal, and the positive tests waned. I guess they did not want to invest in their own demise.
Now in-competition testing seems to be getting results, when it has long thought to be less effective...for whatever reason. Totally unsure why.
I personally know a bunch of Kenyans. Great people with a massive poverty problem. They are just not going to stop doping because of the lure of money. Athletics Kenya needs to be suspended until they sort the issue out. Over 400 suspended athletes would decimate any other nation.
Imagine if Athletics Illustrated was around for Jim Ryun, Zola Budd, Eliud Kipchoge, Allyson Felix, Kirani James, Ghebreselasie, Tirunesh Dibaba... they would have accused Herb Elliott of doping..
As we continue our countdown to the start of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, we look at a quintet of special athletes who defied age and logic to be crowned world champions in their teenage years.
Imagine if Athletics Illustrated was around for Jim Ryun, Zola Budd, Eliud Kipchoge, Allyson Felix, Kirani James, Ghebreselasie, Tirunesh Dibaba... they would have accused Herb Elliott of doping..
How can the powers that be continue to have a blind eye to the doping facts surrounding Kenya and East Africa as a whole?
How many busts does it take to conclude the obvious? How many never get busted?
Kenyan Athletes, coaches, agents, pharmacists, athletic officials, government officials, athletes family members, the communities in which they live all are part of this. None of them care about sport integrity, they only care about making money any way they can. There are no serious reprisals; rather there is acceptance of it all. Athlete after athlete gets busted and there are hundreds waiting in the wings to do the same and they are prayed upon by everyone listed. No athlete squeals for fear of death and death to their extended family. It’s criminal… Mafia rule due to the large amounts of money to be had.
None of what is and has been going on for decades aligns with Olympic or sport ideals.
I feel for those many clean athletes that are continually robbed of their glory, their pay check, their self worth.
End this madness and slap Kenya with an outright ban on their athletes being able to compete. Then focus resources on Ethiopia, Uganda, heck even Spain.
Do something Wada, AIU, World Athletics, Olympics, Kenya sure as heck won’t. Otherwise kiss track and field goodbye and look in the mirror and ask yourselves who is at fault.
